The Heart Surgeon’s Last Patient Novel Chapter 55

Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 55

But seeing the look on Roderick’s face now, she guessed she

must have done something utterly foolish.

She touched her nose awkwardly and said she needed to fix her

makeup.

After she went inside, Roderick steadied himself and picked up

his phone to make a call.

“Help me contact that craftsman in Malikania.”

“Yes, the one who made the wedding rings back then. I want

him to make another pair, same size.”

***

At that moment, a taxi pulled up outside the villa.

Mary stepped out. Using her phone as a mirror, she fixed her

makeup.

“No calls, no replies… Madeleine, I really want to see what

you’ve been up to lately.”

Chapter 55

She let out a cold snort.

Life hadn’t been easy for her recently. Last time she went out

with Madeleine, she had spent quite a lot, and now she was

broke. She needed to squeeze more money out of that woman.

She had found out that Edward was going to the golf course

today, so she arranged to meet Madeleine ahead of time,

intending to take her along.

As always, every time she leaked a bit of news about Edward to

Madeleine, the woman practically spewed money like a printing

press.

Over the years, Mary had already treated Madeleine as her

personal ATM.

This time would be no exception.

The only thing that unsettled her was Madeleine’s husband. She

feared he might throw her out again.

Then she thought about it. Madeleine was such a fool that she

would surely hold her husband back.

Just as she reached out to press the doorbell, the door opened.

Chapter 55

Mary froze, eyes widening at the sight before her.

What were they wearing!?

Matching family outfits!?

“This is insane…”

Not only were the three of them dressed alike, but all of them

were smiling.

Roderick took a few steps and then bent down to pick up his

son.

Beside him, Madeleine kept chattering, making the father and

son laugh even brighter.

Mary stared, a bad hunch rising in her chest.

Could it be that this woman had changed her mind again?

“No way. That’s impossible.”

Madeleine had done countless irrational things for Edward in

the past. Anyone could see how madly obsessed she had been.

And she would give him up so easily? Mary refused to believe it.

Chapter 55

As the three of them were about to get in the car, Mary

stretched her hands through the iron gate and shouted,

“Madeleine! Hey, Maddie, it’s me!”

Madeleine turned at the noise, her smile immediately fading.

Why was it that someone always had to ruin her mood when

she was happy?

Roderick also recognized the intruder, his gaze darkening.

He looked down at Madeleine. Her smile had faded, and no one

could tell what she was thinking.

In the past, whenever she saw Mary, Madeleine would chase

her to ask about Edward.

Now, Mary was still shouting without pause.

Madeleine turned to Roderick. “Wait a second. I’ll go check.”

Without waiting for his response, she jogged to the gate.

Mary’s face lit up with joy when Madeleine approached.

She knew it! The woman hadn’t changed at all. Her heart and

mind were still full of Edward, desperate to use her as a

strategist and informant.

Chapter 55

“Maddie, finally! What happened to you these days? Is your

phone broken?”

Madeleine didn’t open the gate. She only smiled faintly at her

from behind it.

“Nope.”

“No? Then Roderick’s keeping you on a tight leash, not letting

you use your phone?”

“Not really.”

Mary frowned.

“Neither? But you haven’t replied to me for days.”

Madeleine feigned ignorance.

“Really? I didn’t get anything.”

“That’s impossible…”

Mary pulled out her phone to check, but she didn’t press her on

the matter and instead shifted the topic.

“Fine, fine, forget about that. Maddie, I’ve got something

important to tell you.”

Chapter 55

Gripping the bars of the gate, she leaned closer. “Come on,

open the gate!”

“Whatever it is, just say it here.”

“Well… fine. I found out that Edward will be at the golf club

today. I made a booking, too. I can take you with me. How

about it?”

Her eyebrows arched as she spoke.

She was already bracing for Madeleine to rush out and hug her

in excitement.

That woman always went crazy at the mere mention of Edward.

There was no way she would miss such a chance.

But Madeleine only smiled faintly, fiddling with her freshly

painted nails.

“Oh? Edward, well…”

Mary nodded eagerly. “Yes, yes! He even asked about you the

other day!”

“Really?” Madeleine suddenly turned, calling out sweetly to the

man not far away. “Darling, she says Edward wants to see me!”

Chapter 55

She stunned not only Mary but also Roderick. He paused in

surprise.

He walked over with their son in his arms, eyes narrowing

dangerously.

“Mr. Carroll is so idle, is he?”

Mary paled instantly, stammering. “Mr. Livingston, don’t get me

wrong.”

“About what?” Madeleine tilted her head innocently. “Weren’t

you just saying you’d take me to see Edward?”

She sighed and spread her hands.

“But what a pity, I don’t have time. I’m going to the amusement

park with my husband and son. Don’t bother me with these

things again.”

Mary’s jaw dropped in shock.

Kevin perched proudly in his father’s arms, lifted his chin, and

declared in his childish voice.

“Ma’am, did you hear that? My mommy said not to come

looking for her anymore.”

Chapter 55

Mary was speechless.

Mary was right about her hunch.

She clutched the gate so hard that her nails dug into the metal.

She couldn’t believe that the happy woman in front of her was

the same Madeleine who once knelt just to see Edward.

If that was true, then her cash machine was gone!

Madeleine ignored her. Instead, she looped her arm sweetly

around Roderick’s.

“Darling, we’re running late. Let’s go.”

Roderick looked down at her and silently nodded.

The three of them turned, got into the car, and drove off, leaving

Mary dumbstruck at the gate.

“What on earth…”

She still couldn’t believe what she had just seen.

Was it real? Or just a show?

Just then, Kirsten came out to buy groceries. Mary rushed over

to grab her.

Chapter 55

“You’re the Livingston maid, right? Tell me what’s wrong with

your madam lately? Is she sick or Crazy?”

Kirsten knew Mary. She knew exactly what she had done in the

past. With disgust, she shook off her hand.

“You’re the crazy one! Our Mrs. Livingston is perfectly fine. But

you! You’re always trying to stir up trouble. What are you

plotting?”

Unwilling to give up, Mary grabbed her again.

“Don’t fool me. How could Madeleine suddenly change? Her

heart belongs to Mr. Carroll!”

“That was before. Now, Mrs. and Mr. Livingston are deeply in

love, and Mr. Kevin clings to his mother all day. I’d advise you to

stop wasting your energy.”

With a scornful glare, Kirsten walked away.

Really, what a vile woman! She came here only to sabotage the

bond between the couple.

Mary bit down hard, grinding her teeth, but then paused.

In love?

Chapter 55

Impossible. How could Madeleine and Roderick be in love?

Her frown eased as she recalled overhearing Edward once

talking about “playing hard to get“. Suddenly, everything clicked.

“So that’s it. She’s pretending.

“Oh, Madeleine, you’re really willing to go that far for Edward,

acting with a man you don’t even love.

“Don’t worry. I’ll help you get back to Mr. Carroll.”
