Silent Dreams Never Die — Author: John Miller 353
Scarlett was taken aback for a moment, looking at Damian with confusion. “What?”
Damian met her gaze, his expression serious. “Lover.”

It was only then that Scarlett realized what he was referring to. She hurried to explain, “Damian, I just said that without thinking. Of course, I had my reasons–I wanted to use your status to put Amanda in her place. I just—”
Before she could finish, Damian cut in, “Scarlett, I took it seriously.”
Scarlett fell silent, unsure how to respond. That earnest look in Damian’s eyes always seemed to disarm her.
Which version of Damian was real?
The one who was gentle with her now, or the one she’d seen kissing Sabrina?
Maybe neither was the full truth–or perhaps both were part of him.
Pulling her thoughts back, she looked at him and said, “What I said really was just in the moment. Please don’t read too much into it.”
Damian didn’t reply, but his grip on the spoon tightened slightly.

After leaving the hospital, Amanda felt a knot of frustration tightening in her chest.
Damian held considerable influence, and she didn’t dare confront him directly–but Vincent would.
She directed her driver to take her to Vincent’s company downtown.
Once there, she called his assistant, Abbott, who soon came down to meet her.
“Mrs. Stewart, what brings you here?” Abbott greeted politely.
Amanda didn’t waste time. “Take me to see Vincent.”
Abbott hesitated. “Mrs. Stewart, Mr. Vincent Stewart isn’t in the office today. Please don’t put me in a difficult position.”
“Not in?” Amanda pressed, her stare unwavering. “Then where is he?”

“He mentioned personal matters,” Abbott replied with a cautious shake of his head. “I didn’t feel it was my place to ask for details.”
Seeing she wouldn’t get further, Amanda waved him off. “Fine, go back to your work. I’ll call him myself.”
Once Abbott was gone, she took out her phone. Vincent didn’t always answer her calls–being his mother didn’t grant her special access.
That was precisely why she’d waited until Abbott was gone to dial him.
What surprised her, though, was that for once, Vincent picked up almost instantly.
“What is it?” his voice came through, cool and direct.
Hearing him only fueled Amanda’s irritation, though she kept her tone controlled. “What are you doing right now?”
“I’m out shopping with someone,” Vincent replied.
composure snapped. “You have time to go shopping? Do you even know Scarlett has
Amanda’s
taken a lover?”
There was a slight pause on the line before Vincent responded, a hint of amusement in his voice. “Oh?”
“‘Oh‘? Is that all you have to say?” she fired back. “You should file for divorce immediately. I made sure to ask the doctor–the chances of her conceiving again are practically zero. Our family doesn’t need a woman who can’t carry on the line. Divorce her, and I’ll find you someone better suited.”
After she finished, Vincent said simply, “I’ll think about it.”
He didn’t mention that they were already in the mandatory separation period required before finalizing a divorce.
Amanda opened her mouth to argue further, but the line went dead before she could get another word in.

After ending the call, Vincent turned a page of the luxury catalog resting on his lap.
He was seated in the lounge of an upscale boutique, sipping his espresso slowly, unfazed by his mother’s outburst.
If Scarlett really had taken a lover, it could only be one of two men–Damian or Nolan.

His musings were interrupted as the fitting room door opened.
He glanced up and saw Sabrina step out, wearing a deep crimson wool coat over a long white lace–trimmed dress. Her hair fell softly over her shoulders, giving her an elegant, composed air.
She caught his eye in the mirror and smiled softly. “Vincent, how does it look?”
Vincent nodded. “It looks beautiful on you.”
Standing under the soft boutique lighting, Sabrina seemed to outshine everything around her.
She turned to examine herself in the full–length mirror, evidently pleased with the coat.
Seeing her approval, Vincent gestured to the attentive sales associate nearby. “We’ll take it.”
Sabrina touched the sleeve almost shyly. “Vincent, you really don’t have to buy something this expensive.”
“It’s worth every penny when you wear it,” he replied smoothly.
A faint blush rose to her cheeks. Noticing the exchange, the sales associate chimed in warmly, “Mr. Stewart is so generous to his girlfriend.”
It was widely known that Vincent was seen with Sabrina, though very few were aware he was still legally married–and a father.
