After carefully reading the remark, she repeated it aloud, then replied with a bright, unbothered smile, “Your username is ‘Damian‘. I’ve heard you have quite the rivalry with someone named Vincent here in Rivergate. Tell you what–if you can snatch a major, long- term project from Vincent, one he’s heavily invested in, then I might just meet you in person… and let you get a whiff of my perfume.”
When Zachary heard Claire’s self–deprecating reply, he didn’t feel disgust–instead, a faint smile touched his lips.
Maybe others wouldn’t grasp her meaning, but he did.
Vincent was one of the most powerful figures in the city. Who would dare―or even be able—to cross him?
On one level, Claire was deflecting an unwelcome advance. On another, she was issuing an indirect, impossible rejection.
Yet her playful tone made it sound almost as if she’d really go through with it under those absurd terms.
Thinking this, Zachary’s smile widened. He drained the wine in his glass and looked back at Claire’s face on the screen. Softly, he said to himself, “You know… I’m actually tempted to try.”

In the hospital room, Scarlett lay weak and exhausted.
Elsewhere, the night was lively and loud.
Vincent sat in the most exclusive booth of an upscale lounge. Bass–heavy music pulsed through the space.
On the dance floor, young men and women moved under the swirling lights.
Inside the booth, Vincent had already finished more than a bottle of red wine, pouring glass after glass.
A heavy, frustrated ache sat in his chest–one he was trying to drown.
Daniel was the last of their group to arrive. Seeing Vincent nearly two bottles in, he leaned toward Harris. “What’s going on with him?”

Harris shook his head but kept his voice low. “Lucy had a high–risk exposure during a surgery today. I think it’s eating at him.”
Daniel had already heard about it from Sabrina.
He looked at Vincent with concern, then leaned over and clapped him on the shoulder. “Lucy started post–exposure prophylaxis right away. It’s not over yet–there’s still hope. Try not to let it consume you.”
Vincent looked up. His eyes were bloodshot.
After a moment, he just nodded. “Yeah.”
Daniel thought the reassurance might help, but Vincent’s mood only seemed to darken.
He turned back to Harris. “Is there something else bothering him?”
Harris frowned, sensing it too. “I’m not sure.”
Daniel ventured a guess. “Could it be about Scarlett?”
Harris shook his head. “Unlikely. There were never real feelings there. Why would he be over her?”
“Then who else?” Daniel pressed.
“Maybe Vanessa… or Sabrina?”

At Sabrina’s name, Daniel replied simply, “Sabrina’s always been gentle. She’s stayed by his side all these years without pushing for anything more. That says enough about her character. I doubt she’s the reason.”
Harris fell silent.
After a pause, he said, “Just leave him be. He’s been like this since I got here–won’t say a word no matter what you ask.”
Daniel nodded in agreement.
Vincent had drunk deeply. After finishing the second bottle, he opened a third.
But halfway through it, he suddenly stood up. Without a word, he turned and headed for the exit.
Seeing him leave, Daniel and Harris instinctively moved to follow.
Just then, Luke and Naomi appeared, stepping into Vincent’s path.

“Vincent, you heading out already?” Luke asked bluntly.
Vincent paused, slightly surprised. “What are you doing here?”
“Grandpa was worried about you,” Luke said. “Sent me to check in.”
Na lingered quietly behind Luke, keeping her distance.
Vincent just grunted in acknowledgment. “I’m going to the hospital to see someone. You stay here with Daniel and Harris. Have fun, but don’t stay out too late–go home straight after.”
Hearing hospital, Luke’s heart began to race.
He searched Vincent’s face. “Which friend are you visiting?”
Without much thought, Vincent answered, “My wife.”
At the word “wife“, Luke’s composure cracked. A jolt of panic ran through him, and he nearly stumbled where he stood.
