Chapter 21
Chapter 21
Natalie replied, “How about him saying he loves you and wants to marry you? I want to hear that.”
She had to gather evidence of Rowan’s affair, secure a job, and take care of her two children. At the same time, she had to make sure Rowan wouldn’t sense any changes.
Hence, she could only manipulate a fool like Imogen so that the latter would provide her with the evidence willingly.
Rowan came out of the bathroom and got into Imogen’s bed. Imogen tapped on the recording button and placed her phone under the pillow. Then, she leaned against Rowan’s chest and asked sweetly, “Rowan, why don’t you divorce Natalie so that we can be together for real?”
When Rowan heard Imogen’s suggestion, his arm around her shoulders froze.
“Natalie did nothing wrong. I’d seem like a jerk if I were to ask for a divorce,” Rowan replied, trying to brush her off.
“You two aren’t getting along well, and it’s a contractual marriage. The contract will end soon, so a divorce is inevitable. Don’t you love me and want to acknowledge my identity to the public?” Imogen sat up and pushed him away, her face livid.
“That’s not true.” Rowan held her hand and said gently, “Of course, I love you. The person I love the most is you.”
“When are you divorcing Natalie then?” Imogen asked, her voice laced with displeasure.
“Let me… think about it.” Rowan didn’t plan to get a divorce for now.
“You don’t even love me. You’re my first, and now I’m still with you. If someone were to find out about this, what would they think of me?
“If you don’t get a divorce, then I… I’ll be seen as a homewrecker. I’m the daughter of the Chapmans. I can get any guy I want, but I only love you. Don’t you feel bad for me?” Imogen choked up as she complained, wiping her tears.
“Imogen…” Rowan pulled her into his embrace, his heart aching when he saw how upset she was. “I need more time.”
“I can give you more time, but you have to tell me how long exactly you need. You can’t keep me waiting for you, right?”
After mulling things over, Rowan replied, “I have no more feelings for Natalie, and I don’t love her. There’s only one reason I’m not divorcing her.
“I’m just afraid that Sarah and Roger might get hurt if we get a divorce. They’re still too young. It might impact them negatively if they were to grow up in a single-parent family.”
“Roger really adores me, so he must be happy. As for Sarah… without Natalie persuading her, she’d accept me in no time. Are you worried that I couldn’t take good care of the kids?” Imogen asked.
Rowan comforted Imogen, saying, “Natalie is a free housekeeper at home. She takes care of my kids and keeps the house clean and tidy. I simply don’t want to overwork you.
“If I really send her away, you’ll be the one to prepare our clothes and also meals. Won’t you feel tired?”
“You can tell Pamela to do the chores.” With her back facing Rowan, Imogen grew more furious as she spoke.
“Natalie is nothing but a maid to me. She’s someone who takes care of the household.” Rowan pulled Imogen over and looked her in the eyes. “Babe, you’re the only one I love.”
“If you don’t divorce her, then stop looking for me. I… I’m going abroad tomorrow,” Imogen threatened.
“I’ll definitely divorce her.” Suddenly, Rowan recalled what his mother had said. “I have to think of a way to get the kids’ custody, then I’ll kick her out of the house.”
Imogen had been trying hard to persuade Rowan to get a divorce, yet she didn’t receive an exact answer. To make Natalie the one to file for a divorce, Imogen edited the recording before sending it to Natalie.
She couldn’t wait to see how Natalie would react after she listened to that recording. She thought that would piss Natalie off.
