ina was wiping Zackery’s face when she heard the news of Sean’s death.
She couldn’t help but press harder, unable to describe how she felt.
Regret?
Sadness?
Neither.
As Nina was lost in thought, she heard a hoarse voice.
“Wife, are you trying to murder your dear husband with that much force?”
Nina looked down and met Zackery’s gaze. The man’s eyes were gentle, a smile playing on his lips as he just looked at her.
Tears suddenly fell onto Zackery’s face. Nina couldn’t hold back anymore and collapsed onto him, sobbing uncontrol- lably.
“You’re finally awake…”
“Do you know, do you have any idea how long I’ve waited for you.”
Stroking the woman’s soft, long hair, Zackery said gently, “I know.”
He pulled Nina into his arms and kissed her forehead.
“I knew you were worried about me, so I fought with all my might against those monsters trying to take my life.”
Nina momentarily forgot to cry, tears still on her cheeks. She asked, “And then?”
Zackery smiled, wiped away her tears with his fingers, and pressed his forehead against Nina’s, his voice low and husky.
“And then, I won.
I told them my wife was waiting for me.”
Watching Nina lean against his chest, Zackery felt his heart soften, a magical feeling.
“Nina.”
“Hm?”
“I love you.”

Seeing his wife was still a bit overwhelmed, Zackery gently patted her shoulder and told her a story.
A long time ago, a boy had a fight with his mom and dad and stormed out of the house.
But he soon got lost.
Night fell, and it was raining heavily. He didn’t have an umbrella, so he had to hide under some eaves.
Squatting under the eaves with him was a little girl, who was wrapping her own coat around a soaked little Golden.
It was the first time the little boy had met someone like that, who would actually take off their own clothes for a pup- py to wear.
The little Golden was shivering from the cold, but it still tried to stick out its little tongue and lick the girl’s palm.
The little girl giggled and hugged the little Golden.
“Puppy, puppy, don’t you have a home?”
The little Golden seemed to understand and barked once.
The little girl’s eyes misted over. “I don’t have a home either.”
She picked up the puppy and nuzzled it against her ear. “Puppy, we’re the same.‘
The person who came to find the girl arrived quickly, but he looked mean. He grabbed the girl by her collar and was about to drag her away.
The girl was forced to part with the puppy. She looked at the little boy and pleaded, “Can you take it home?”
Under the girl’s pleading gaze, the little boy inexplicably agreed.
And so, the puppy became the boy’s first pet. He named it Moon, because he always remembered the moon was very bright that night.
Later, when the little boy grew up, he learned that the little girl from that night was a daughter of the Collins family, and she wasn’t favored.
They said she was an illegitimate daughter, but the boy didn’t think so. How could an illegitimate daughter be older than the daughter of the legal wife? Her age even predated the marriage of the head of the Collins family.
Obviously, the little girl’s mother had been wronged.
That’s also why the little girl hugged the puppy and said, “I don’t have a home either.”
The boy fell for the girl, but when he found out who she was, he discovered she already liked someone else.
So the boy had to bury his feelings and silently wished for her to be happy.
But the boy soon realized she wasn’t happy.

So he made a deal with the girl’s sister to have the girl marry as a substitute bride.
He, in turn, agreed to one of the sister’s conditions.
Later, the boy got his wish and married the girl. He secretly vowed to treat her well for his entire life.
If he broke this vow, may lightning strike him down.
