The Girl in the Shadows Novel Chapter 24

Loomwood Galleries Framed Pilgrim Murals by Iris Vaughn 24

Chapter 24

Sean returned to The Bronner Estate and used all his connections to investigate, only to find that Isabelle had been re- leased on bail.

They said she had signed a voluntary transfer agreement with the girl whose heart was taken.

No one was a fool; it was obvious this was just an excuse to get away with it.

But the police couldn’t do anything to Isabelle and had to release her in the end.

And the one who tampered with the car was Isabelle.

Sean rushed to the hospital with the evidence. This time, he was going to prove to Nina that he wasn’t behind it.

But just as he arrived at the hospital, he saw a familiar figure.

A sense of unease washed over him, and Sean followed.

The person was wearing baggy clothes to hide their figure, but Sean recognized her at a glance–it was Isabelle.

He wanted to see what Isabelle was up to.

He watched as Isabelle weaved nimbly through the crowd, finally stopping in front of Zackery’s hospital room.

Seeing this, Sean’s pupils constricted. Nina was in that room too!

The next moment, the door was pushed open, and Nina walked out.

The moment she saw Nina, Isabelle’s expression turned vicious, and she burst out laughing.

“How does it feel?

It doesn’t feel good when the person you love is about to die, does it?”

Nina couldn’t help but frown. “It’s still better than being someone’s mistress.”

She had just found out that Isabelle wasn’t the young lady of the White family, but the mistress of the head of the White family.

Those words were like rubbing salt in Isabelle’s wound. She had been so close to marrying Sean and escaping the head of the White family.

But Nina had ruined it all!

She was forced to go back to serving that old man. The thought of his wrinkled skin made Isabelle want to vomit.

Isabelle’s expression instantly turned savage. She pulled a vial of liquid from her pocket and quickly threw it at Nina.

Seeing this, Sean rushed forward to shield Nina. The acid made contact with his skin, instantly corroding it, and the pain made Sean break out in a cold sweat.

His fingers trembled slightly, and he couldn’t help but cry out.

“Ah!”

Nina froze, staring at the scene before her.

She had never thought Sean would get hurt protecting her.

Isabelle was immediately restrained by the people around them, but she still looked at Nina smugly, without a trace of fear.

“Nina, Jessica is at the edge of a cliff.”

“In another half hour, she and the bomb on her are going to go “boom“.”

Nina’s eyes flew wide open. She grabbed Isabelle’s shoulders tightly. “Where is Jessica!”

Isabelle giggled, then softly uttered a few words.

“Jade River Cliff.”

Nina didn’t have time to worry about Sean. She rushed out of the hospital, got in her car, and sped off.

Time ticked by, but she still hadn’t reached the location. Right now, Nina was like an ant on a hot pan.

Tiny beads of sweat formed on her forehead, dripping into her eyes and causing a stinging pain.

Finally, she reached Jade River Cliff.

She immediately saw Jessica dangling from the cliff’s edge, a large bag of explosives strapped to her body.

After stopping the car, she instantly rushed toward Jessica, trying to untie the rope binding her.

Ten minutes left.

The rope was tied very tightly. Nina’s hands started to bleed from the effort, but she still couldn’t untie it.

Jessica was hanging limply, barely conscious. She looked at the frantic Nina and said weakly, “Don’t waste your ener- gy. You can’t untie it.”

You need to go, now. Otherwise, neither of us will survive.”

Hearing those words from the usually tough Jessica, Nina’s tears started to fall, dripping onto the back of Jessica’s hand.

She snapped viciously, “Shut your mouth!”

Jessica actually fell silent.

She tilted her head back to look at Nina. Nina’s eyes were bloodshot, tears dripping down one after another, but she didn’t stop what she was doing for a second.

Is this what it means to be family?

A strange feeling washed over Jessica.

The rope came loose!

Nina wrapped the rope around her hands and pulled back frantically. The rope dug deep into her skin, and blood slowly seeped out.

But she didn’t make a sound.

Nina knew that the slightest distraction at a moment like this could get both her and Jessica killed, and she wasn’t willing to take that chance.

Jessica was pulled up.

Nina, holding the scissors she’d brought, looked at Jessica.

One minute left.

Nina whispered, “Do you trust me?”
