Adriana nodded. “As the reward for helping you, the favor she asked for can’t be as simple as just getting inside the Barton Estate to annoy me, right?”
Adriana had already guessed Danielle had asked for other rewards.
“She wants me to find your original drafts of your submitted entry for the design competition. On top of that, she wants me to delete all the backup files from your computer.” Justin absently spun his rosary between his fingers.
Adriana raised an eyebrow.
Talk about grasping at straws. Seems like she is really desperate.
“You can give them to her.” Adriana smiled.
She had been ready for this move from Danielle for a long time.
Since Danielle wanted to dig her own grave, Adriana would make sure she was ruined in this competition, with no way to recover for the rest of her life.
“I used to think you were innocent and kind, content to stay out of any conflict,” Justin smiled. I never imagined she would be such a feisty girl who kept her guard up. She really spares no one who tries to set
her up.
“Justin, kindness is for those who deserve it.” Adriana stood up and walked into the garden.
She had never been the type to repay evil with kindness–she simply couldn’t.
Danielle was the one who started all this. Adriana was just turning her own plans against her.
Meanwhile at the Gills Estate, Maggie’s assistant placed Tamara’s photo and file in front of Maggie. “Ms. Maggie, this is the stand–in Danielle and the others found to impersonate you.”
Maggie studied Tamara’s photo, her lips curling into a faint smile. “It’s the daughter of my adoptive uncle…. How interesting.”
“Should we stop them or expose them?” the assistant asked softly.
Maggie tossed the photo into the trash, smiling. “Why expose them? If there’s a show to watch, then we should just enjoy it.”
She wanted to see why Justin was so determined to find “Susan.”
Maybe he wanted to get back at her for poisoning those orphans who had competed with her for adoption all those years ago.

“Maggie!” Maya and Denton came in from outside, holding hands and looking very much in love.
“Maggie, let me introduce you—this is Denton, my boyfriend. Denton, this is my older sister, Maggie.” Maya said cheerfully.
Maggie instantly put up a caring sister act and stood up with a smile. “So you finally decided to bring your boyfriend home?”
Denton smiled at Maggie. “Maggie, nice to meet you.”
Maggie returned the smile politely. “Come on in. Maya, you should have let me know Denton was coming to visit so I could have had Arthur set up dinner.”
Maya grinned shyly, still holding Denton’s hand. “I just wanted Dad to meet Denton. We’re not having dinner at home tonight. We’re going for snacks near Denton’s alma mater.”
Maggie’s smile faded a bit, looking every bit the big sister who couldn’t control her mischievous sibling. “Nonsense. It’s Denton’s first time visiting. That means you have to stay for dinner. No exceptions.”
Maya puffed up her cheeks and glanced at Denton. “All right then.”
“You two must be tired from the flight. Take Denton to rest. I’ll have dinner arranged.” Maggie glanced at the time. “The driver’s gone to Gill Manor to get Dad. He’ll be here in about four hours, so get some rest.”
Maya and Denton nodded and went upstairs.
“My dad bought this house for me, my brother, and my sister. He always wanted the three of us to be close. so he made sure we all grew up together,” Maya explained as they walked,
“I never knew you had an older sister,” Denton said, testing the waters. “You never told me before. If I’d known, I’d have brought a gift for her.”
Denton was cautious–Adriana had already told him a few things about the Gills, and Curtis had warned him as well. No one in the Gills was ordinary. The family’s current patriarch, Elbert, was no simple figure, and Maggie was even more mysterious.
“Maggie is…” Maya looked around and pulled Denton into her room before shutting the door. “She’s adopted.”
Denton acted surprised. “She’s adopted?”
“That’s right. My brother was nine, and I was about five when my dad brought Maggie home. She’s older than us and more reserved. Dad never told anyone about her background. He just raised her as his own,” Maya whispered.
“Did he raise her to make her the Gills‘ successor?” Denton sounded shocked. “But your brother could be a good heir, couldn’t he?”

Maya shook her head. “No, not as the main successor–she’s supposed to support the heir. My dad may have adopted Maggie on the surface, but her official guardian is my Uncle Ethan. So, even though she grew up at the Gill Estate and got the best education, she has no legal claim to the Gill Group. She’s talented, though. After college, she went abroad for her graduate studies. When she came back, she secretly joined the Gill Group’s management to help Marcus with the company.”
Denton nodded. “Sounds like your dad is pretty wary of her…”
Even though Elbert adopted Maggie, he made his brother, Ethan Gill, her legal guardian. That made it clear he didn’t want Maggie competing with his own children for the inheritance.
