Chapter 372 Who Let Her In?
The orphanage poisoning incident left only two children from Jeremy’s original selection: Justin and Susan.
On the day Jeremy made his selection, Justin had been crying the whole time. His younger brother was gone because of the incident, and he could not bring himself to take part in the adoption selection.
Susan had handed him a piece of candy, trying to comfort him and persuade him to eat it.
But Justin could not bring himself to eat the candy. Instead, he ran out to the backyard and placed it on the swing where his brother used to play.
He sat there, zoning out and thinking about his brother, when a stray kitten came by and ate the candy. The kitten had barely made it a few steps before collapsing, blood coming from its mouth.
Back then, Justin was only about eight or nine years old. He stared in shock at the scene, suddenly realizing that Susan’s candy was poisoned.
Justin did not look back. He ran off to report what happened to the orphanage director, Lydia. She trusted Justin and was sure it had to be Susan who poisoned the candy, but there were no cameras at the time, so there was no evidence.
Susan shot Justin a venomous glare, her eyes full of hatred.
Even at such a young age, she was already vicious.
When Jeremy arrived at the orphanage, Susan acted perfectly well–behaved. But in the end, Jeremy still picked Justin–because Susan had tried way too hard.
Jeremy had seen enough in his life to recognize someone putting on an act. Susan was clearly just performing, while Justin was exactly how a young boy his age should have been.
Once the Bartons decided to adopt Justin, Susan’s looks grew even colder and more resentful.
She told Justin, “I will find you, and then I will destroy everything you have.”
After Justin left the orphanage, he did not hear about Susan for many years. When he finally returned as an adult to visit the orphanage, he learned that Susan had died.
She had died in a fire years before.
That fire had burned every document and file the orphanage ever had.

It had also killed Lydia and a few other children.
At the time, Justin suspected Susan was behind it all, so he started a secret investigation into
her.
But for years, there were no leads.
It was not until Curtis, while investigating the Gills, accidentally discovered that the Gills‘ daughter, Maggie, was actually Susan, who had been adopted years ago.
She’s vengeful. She’s determined to ruin me. Once Adriana inherits the Barton Group, I’ll choose to leave. Justin told Curtis he could not stay with Adriana for now.
If it were just Susan, he would not be worried, but Susan was working with the Gills. The Gills might very well be the masterminds behind everything that happened to the Lincolns, the Bartons, and the Harrisons all these
years.
“Let’s team up and get rid of the Gills first,” Curtis told Justin to team up with him.
The Gills were too dangerous to leave unchecked.
Curtis had found out Susan’s true identity, but Danielle and Savannah could not find a trace of her.
With no other option, Savannah decided to find someone to impersonate Susan and close to Justin that way.

Justin, on the other hand, was just waiting for these two women to try something clever and fall into his trap.
It did not take long for news of Savannah and Danielle searching for Susan to spread.
Naturally, Maggie heard about it too.

At the Gill Estate, Maggie lounged lazily on the sofa as her assistant updated her on the Bartons‘ activities.
With a sly smile, Maggie looked at her assistant. Justin and Adriana still haven’t gotten married yet?”
Yes, the assistant answered with a nod.
Maggie stood up. “In that case, I cannot let them get married.”
As a child, she wanted to destroy Justin. But now she had an even bigger goal—she wanted to

unite the four major families and return to the top of the business world.
She planned to use the Gills to swallow up the Bartons, bit by bit.
The next target would be the Lincolns.
From the look of things, the Lincolns were almost done for, only waiting for one final fatal blow after the infighting.
“Has Marcus returned from Pastalia? How are things with Maya and Denton?” Maggie asked her assistant.
As soon as the Gills and Denton formed an alliance through marriage, the Lincolns would fall into her hands.
“Mr. Marcus is back, and Ms. Maya and Denton’s relationship is moving forward at a steady pace. Denton isn’t stupid. If he wants to take over the Lincoln Group, marrying into the Gills is his best move right now.”
Maggie nodded. “I heard Savannah and Danielle are trying to find someone to impersonate me?”
The assistant nodded. “They tracked down your teacher at the orphanage and a student who survived the fire. They asked them about you and now want to use someone to pose as you. Should I expose them?”
Maggie shook her head. “No, let’s wait and see what Justin does.”
Having someone pretend to be her was actually a good thing.
It would reveal exactly how Justin felt now and whether he was still hung up on the past.
Meanwhile, at the Barton Estate, Adriana came out of her study and saw Danielle drinking coffee in the living room.
Adriana walked down the stairs and asked coolly “Who let her in? Do we let just anyone in these days?”
