Justin frantically called for doctors. Jeremy had endured his illness for so long just to wait for this day.

He would wait until Danielle and Chandler became outcasts and were forced to leave Harborton, until Adriana completed her studies and returned in glory, and until all the paths he’d paved for her were complete… before seeing his granddaughter one last time.

But Adriana would arrive tomorrow evening… could Jeremy really not hold on?

“Doctor, doctor!”

Doctors and nurses rushed frantically into the room, checking Jeremy’s condition and urgently wheeling him into the emergency room.

“Mr. Barton, you have to hold on until Adriana gets back. There are things you need to tell her yourself.” Justin said with a choked voice, holding Jeremy’s hand until he was pushed into the emergency room.

“Mr. Hotchner…” The emergency room door closed, and his assistant quickly ran over. “I don’t know who leaked that Jeremy doesn’t have much time left. Chandler and Danielle rushed to Harborton overnight. They’re outside, saying they want to see him one last time.”

The hospital outside was full of reporters. Chandler was Jeremy’s son after all. If they didn’t let Chandler in now, who knows how the media would report it tomorrow?

Justin’s eyes darkened as he looked at his assistant. “Let the father and daughter in.”

Outside the hospital, Danielle and Chandler stood there supporting each other, their acting skills on full display, as if they were about to collapse in tears at any moment.

“Please, let us go in and see Grandpa one last time.” Danielle begged through tears.

This sob story was being performed in front of the media, naturally, to prepare for the upcoming inheritance battle.

“Ms. Danielle, we heard Jeremy has found the Barton heir, the real Ms. Barton. Do you know anything about this?” A reporter asked Danielle.

Danielle shook her head tearfully. “Everything the Bartons have should belong to the rightful heir. If she really comes back, we definitely won’t fight with her. But Grandpa is my family. I just want to see him one last time.”

Chandler also dropped to her knees crying. “Dad, let me see you one last time. I’m unfilial. I wasn’t born to the woman you loved most, but I didn’t choose my birth. All these years I’ve devoted myself to the Bartons. Won’t you even let me see you one last time?”

Chandler said this for the media to hear. Although he was an illegitimate son, born through his mother’s improper means, his birth wasn’t something he could choose. He had contributed so much to the Bartons–they couldn’t leave him with nothing.

They wanted to fight a PR war.

Moreover, Chandler and Danielle were betting that the real Barton heir wouldn’t come back.

“Dad, I’ve already had people watch Justin. All the women suspected of being the true heir- we’ve sent people to investigate them all. So far, nothing.” Danielle whispered in Chandler’s

ear.

Perhaps the real heir hadn’t been found at all. If she had really been found, could Jeremy have endured the pain for so long? This was just a red herring deliberately put out.

Chandler nodded and saw Justin’s assistant walk in.

“You two, please follow me.”

Seeing that Justin agreed to let them in, Chandler’s lips curved up.

With these reporters here, their PR war would obviously gain some advantage.

Justin wanted to monopolize the Barton inheritance? Impossible.

Buzz!

Just as they entered the hospital, Danielle’s phone buzzed with a message from Cheryl that read, “I’ve already sent the design to your email.”

Danielle’s lips curved up.

Everything was going so smoothly.

She had Adriana’s design in hand. Let’s see how a newcomer with no notable works could compete with her in this field.

Besides, Curtis was gone. No one could help her anymore.

At the international airport in Pastalia.

Adriana held a baby, followed by Gary and several bodyguards.

“Adriana, Curtis has something to tell you.” Gary answered a phone call, walked up to Adriana, and spoke softly.

Adriana nodded and took Gary’s phone. “I’m already at the airport. The babies will be safe with Irene and the nanny.”

Keeping the children here was safer than taking them back with her.

This return home would be a tough battle.

“Adriana… there’s something I want to tell you. You need to be mentally prepared.” Curtis hesitated for a long time before speaking. “You…”

“I’m the Barton heir, the real one, right?” Adriana finished the sentence for Curtis.

On the other end of the line, Curtis froze. It took him a while before he spoke, “Did Gary tell you ahead of time?”

“I guessed it when you had your incident.” Adriana smiled. “As a Harborton socialite, Irene had no reason to like me so much, helping me at every turn, worrying about everything.”

So she had figured it out long ago.

Curtis was silent again. He had always known Adriana was smart, but he hadn’t expected her to guess it had to do with the Bartons.

“Adriana, the Bartons aren’t as simple as they seem. You need to be careful of Danielle and Chandler and the people scheming behind the scenes.” Curtis reminded Adriana to be careful.
