A Mix-up Made Me His Enemy’s Woman 127
Chapter 127

Bethany felt her cheeks suddenly heat up as she finished watching the live stream.
She didn’t know if the sunlight streaming through the floor–to–ceiling windows was making her flush, or if it was because of Silas‘ words. The heat spread to her ears and turned her pale earlobes a deep crimson.
Right then, Holly called her. “Beth, did you see it?”
Bethany mumbled, “I saw it.
“Are you sure Silas is gay? I really think that he likes you!”
Holly added, “If he’s really gay, why would he hold a press conference? He was in a rush to cut off ties with that attention–seeker. He’s explaining things to you and doesn’t want you to misunderstand his relationship with her! And he even fought my uncle for you? Oh my god. He definitely likes you!”
Two men in their 30s were fighting over her best friend. Holly felt excited just thinking about
Bethany was even more excited. Still, she remained stubborn.
“Hols, I think you’re misunderstanding something. The rumors about Silas liking men haven’t just been around for a year or two. Besides, couldn’t it be that he’s explaining things to the man he actually likes? Maybe he just wants to tell the person he loves that he’s only into
men.”
She left one thing unsaid—that she and Silas were married and had accidentally slept together.
Perhaps Silas felt guilty toward the man he loved because of that. The press conference felt more like a confession or an apology to that mystery man.
Holly rolled her eyes. “Beth, you used to be the prettiest student on campus. Can you have a little more confidence in your looks and charm? I don’t think Silas has a boyfriend. I think he’s liked you all along!”
Bethany felt her heart skip a beat at those words.
How could that be possible?
Noah had crushed her heart just recently, so she didn’t dare entertain those kinds of thoughts. She didn’t dare to hope even a little bit.

She was like a hedgehog with its quills up–the moment she sensed danger, she bristled, ready to use her sharp spikes in defense.
Whether it was Silas or anyone else, she couldn’t bring herself to fully trust them.
Holly sighed helplessly. “Fine. But Ella paid for all that PR to build herself up as everyone’s sweetheart, and now it’s all going down the drain.”
Just as she said, Ella was furious. She had only listened to half of the press conference before she smashed her phone to pieces. Unfortunately, the shattered phone on the floor continued to play the second half of the interview.
When she heard Silas calling her an attention–seeker, she bit her lip so hard that she tasted
blood.
She didn’t know what kind of spell Bethany had cast on Silas. She believed Bethany must have made him slander her like this. Otherwise why would Silas offend the daughter of the Reid family?
The mere thought of Bethany made Ella sick to her stomach.
Noah didn’t care much about what Silas said, but the press conference made him more
convinced that Silas was up to something.
“Ella, if you see Silas at an event, stay away from him.”
Ella leaned into his embrace and pretended to be scared. “Okay. I’m really afraid he’ll lash out because he was humiliated.”
Noah scoffed. “He wouldn’t dare. If he actually tries to do anything to you, I’ll go after him until the end!”
Even if others were afraid of Silas, Noah wasn’t.
Silas ended the press conference with confidence. He sat in his car and tapped his phone against his hand.
But the screen remained black. There were no messages.
When it finally lit up, he clicked on the notification. It was just Oscar tagging him in the group chat and giving him a thumbs–up.
