I Cancel the Engagement and Level Way Up 85

Chapter 85

Kingston’s long fingers reached over and caught Vivian by the chin. His handsome face moved in close, his breath hot against her skin.

“Your taste in men really is terrible.”

“You… You can’t just insult me like that.” Vivian didn’t move. She barely dared to breathe.

She had to admit it. The man in front of her had the kind of face that made her heart race.

Kingston let out a low laugh.

The way their breaths seemed to tangle made Vivian’s lashes tremble.

If she’d never met Logan, she might have already been married to Kingston.

The thought crossed her mind. She quickly looked away.

She felt like the scented oil in the room had messed with her head.

Kingston’s mood seemed better. He let go of her.

Seeing his smile, Vivian felt her mind heat up. She blurted, “Mr. Howard, please give Hartwell Group a chance.”

Hartwell Group just needed an opportunity.

Kingston looked down at her, a faint smile playing on his lips. “I just saved you. And now, you’re asking for more?”

His words made Vivian flush. She gave an awkward laugh.

He neither agreed nor refused. He only gave her an unreadable look before walking away.

Vivian followed him into the elevator.

Theo trailed behind at an unhurried pace, sighing now and then.

“He’s really easy to convince.”

Vivian didn’t get it, but Kingston shot Theo a look sharp enough to cut.

“Keep talking, and I’ll put you in charge of the Outlands project.”

Theo shut up immediately and put on a flattering smile.

“Kingston, what are you saying? I’m delicate. If you send me to a place like Outlands, how

could I survive?”

As he spoke, Theo tried to step into the elevator, but Kingston kicked him right back out.

Theo wasn’t ready. He fell onto the floor with a thud, then put on a dramatic expression.

“Kingston, you’re so cruel.”

Vivian was stunned. Her gaze bounced between Theo and Kingston.

For a second, she honestly felt like there was something going on between them.

No wonder Kingston hadn’t had any gossip floating around after he ended the engagement

with her.

Maybe her curiosity was too obvious. Right as the elevator doors slid shut, Kingston’s sharp

gaze swept over her.

“Clean the dirty thoughts out of your head.”

“Oh,” Vivian mumbled, looking away.

When they reached the first floor, Kingston glanced at her and walked out.

Vivian followed at an even pace, looking around.

The first thing she saw was a famous international mural directly across from the elevator, Cupid and Psyche.

As she walked farther, the walls were covered in murals that made her cheeks burn.

When she’d come in earlier, she’d been too tense to look closely. She’d only noticed the biggest mural.

Now that she’d calmed down, she started paying attention to her surroundings.

The paintings and carved reliefs on the walls mostly depicted couples in intimate poses.

Vivian’s face burned as she unconsciously quickened her steps.

She focused on walking and didn’t realize there were two steps ahead.

Her foot slipped, and she cried out as her body pitched forward.

Kingston was right in front of her. He reacted instantly and caught her.

He looked down at her. Their eyes locked.

Both of their ears turned red, like they’d been scorched.
