I Cancel the Engagement and Level Way Up 79
Chapter 79
If Whitfield Group were to collapse later on, Vivian would be setting a trap for Kingston. Over the past few days, she had already worked out a plan to pull Hartwell Group out of its current predicament.
The first step in reviving Hartwell Group was to resolve the long–standing conflict between the Hartwell and Howard families. When the Howard family announced it would no longer partner with the Hartwell family, it dealt Hartwell Group a noticeable blow.
If Kingston were to resume the partnership with Hartwell Group in the future, it would reassure those companies that were on the fence about whether to work with Hartwell Group.
Kingston had purchased shares in Whitfield Group because there was profit to be made. If Whitfield Group imploded, the shares in his hands would become worthless. Vivian couldn’t dig a pit for him and let him fall into it. That would be a small gain at the cost of a huge loss.
Clenching her teeth, she called the unknown number. The call was answered almost
immediately. The other party’s voice had been altered, making it impossible for her to identify
who it was.
Vivian’s repeated probing irritated the person on the other end.
The other party stated, “If you don’t believe me, just wait for tomorrow’s headlines in
Baymoor. Consider it a wedding gift from me to you and Mr. Whitfield. Either way, I lose
nothing.”
Vivian frowned. Her fingers tightened slightly around her phone. Before the other party could end the call, she hurriedly said, “How would you lose nothing? Three million dollars isn’t a
small sum. I need time to raise that much money, and I should at least discuss this with Logan.
The person refuted instantly. “No.”
Vivian was confused. “Why not?”
The
person fell silent for a moment before speaking in a lower voice. The anger from before was gone. It was replaced with a tone that sounded persuasive.
“Ms. Hartwell, if Logan has been doing things behind your back that harm the company, haven’t you ever thought about holding all the evidence in your hands? One day, it might become the perfect weapon against him.
“If you go to him now, you’ll lose the leverage you could have had. Besides, I’ve heard that he

has been keeping a woman on the side. Are you truly going to stay guardless around him?”
Vivian fell silent. A heavy look flashed through her eyes. She asked, “Who are you?”

There were only a small number of people who knew about Logan’s affair. The other party’s voice was low as he said, “Come tonight, and you’ll know.”
With that, the person ended the call. Vivian stared at her phone screen and fell into deep thought for a long time. It was only after a while that she finally walked back toward her car.
There were still 12 hours left until 10:00 pm. With Vivian’s means, raising three million dollars in cash wouldn’t be difficult. Yet, for some reason, she felt uneasy.
This sudden call had disrupted her plans for the day. Taking a deep breath, she regained her composure and began preparing the cash. It took her just one morning to gather the entire
amount.
The other party didn’t send a single message or make another call after that. Once Vivian placed the bag of cash into her trunk, she drove aimlessly around the city, waiting for the other party to contact her.
When she passed by a party store, she hesitated for a moment before getting out of the car and buying a bag of fake bills. Then, she placed it in the trunk as well.
It wasn’t until 9:00 pm that her phone finally rang again. The person on the other end said, ” Ms. Hartwell, we’re almost at our agreed time. Is the money ready?”
