Chapter 72
Vivian turned around and saw Kingston step out from the shadows. The dim yellow porch light spilled over his shoulders, and he was casually turning her phone in his hand. His expression was inexplicably stern and heavy.
Logan withdrew his hand and watched Vivian walk toward Kingston. Then, he felt uneasy.
“Thank you, Mr. Howard,” said Vivian as she reached out for the phone in Kingston’s hand.
He lowered his gaze and looked at her in silence before asking, “Do you need help?”
She shook her head and replied, “No.”
Upon hearing that, Kingston tightened his grip around the phone. Puzzled, Vivian looked up and met his eyes, catching the flash of displeasure there. She muttered, “Mr. Howard…”
The phone was held firmly in his hand, and she couldn’t pull it away. She also couldn’t understand why he was upset. As his expression relaxed, he finally loosened his grip.
Meanwhile, Logan stood by the porch, watching the interaction between Kingston and Vivian. His expression darkened. He stepped forward and wrapped an arm around Vivian’s shoulders.
He said, “Mr. Howard, thank you for bringing Vivian’s phone back. I’ve spoiled her. She’s always misplacing things. I hope she didn’t cause you any trouble.”
Kingston responded, “Trouble was caused either way. There’s nothing more to say.”
Logan hadn’t expected such bluntness. His smile froze for a split second, and the arm around Vivian’s shoulders tightened. She shot him a glance and said coldly, “You’re hurting me.”
He was taken aback, but he still eased his grip. After that, she pushed his hand turned to Kingston, saying, “I’ll walk you out.”
Kingston smiled. “Are you worried about me walking alone at night?”

Vivian was at a loss for words. She had only been making a polite gesture. There was no need
to make it sound like something was going on between them.
Kingston continued, “I’m a grown man. I’m not afraid of the dark.”
Vivian pressed her lips together and said, “I won’t see you off then.”
To that, he nodded and replied, “Alright.”
Although he answered her, he didn’t turn to leave. Seeing that he remained where he was, she

understood what he meant. So, she turned and headed toward the door.
Standing to the side, Logan still forced himself to maintain his composure even though his face was livid. “Mr. Howard, we won’t walk you out then. Take care.”
Then, Logan followed Vivian. Kingston looked at Logan and stated calmly, “Mr. Whitfield, your car is blocking mine. Could you move it?”
Upon hearing that, Logan pulled out his phone to give Jack a call. Then, he remembered he had been drinking that night and had a designated driver send him here. He put down his phone and responded, “Alright.”
At that moment, Vivian opened the door and walked inside, making sure to lock it behind her. In the meantime, Logan followed Kingston out of the alley.
During the few minutes it took to walk through the alley, Kingston kept a distance from Logan, showing no intention of starting a conversation.
Logan clenched his jaw, aware of the disdain coming from Kingston. Taking a deep breath, Logan quickened his pace and asked, “Mr. Howard, I’ve actually always wanted to know. How do you view Whitfield Group in your eyes?”
“Like the take–off board an athlete steps on,” answered Kingston without hesitation.
His expression remained calm. In the dim light, his eyes were partially hidden, revealing only fragments of emotions under the moonlight.
He added, “It’s very important.”
When Logan heard that, the tension in his body eased a little. “I didn’t expect you to hold Whitfield Group in such high regard.”
