Chapter 68

Zane had thrown a celebration dinner for Logan, rounding up a table and inviting a bunch of his rowdy friends. By the time Logan arrived, everyone was already mid–drink.

When the others noticed him arriving alone, someone asked, “Where’s Vivian?”

Logan’s eyes darkened, and a flicker of impatience crossed his face. “She didn’t come.”

Zane quickly stepped forward to greet Logan, smiling at the questioner. “Which Vivian are you talking about?”

Laughter broke out around the table.

Zane continued, “Vivian’s never liked us much. She wouldn’t come to a dinner like this. If she

did, she’d just give us all the cold shoulder and ruin the mood. If it were the other Vivian, that would make everyone happy.”

Logan gave him a sharp look. “Shut up.”

Zane tapped his mouth theatrically. “Alright, three drinks for me. But I still mean what I said— Vivian’s temper is brutal. Only you can put up with it.”

His face darkened even more. “If you keep insulting her, I’ll have no choice but to sever ties with you.”

Zane’s smile faltered. Logan ignored him and strode past, taking his seat.

A few of the guys immediately crowded around, raising glasses and showering him with compliments. Logan soaked it in.

After a few drinks, Logan said, “After today, I probably won’t have time to hang out with guys again.”

Everyone showed their understanding with a nod.

After taking a verbal scolding from Logan earlier, Zane now sat silently, swirling his drink with a hint of resentment.

Finally, he asked, “Logan, is this because Vivian doesn’t want you hanging out with us?”

Logan didn’t answer, though it was indeed part of the reason.

When Logan didn’t respond, Zane cursed under his breath. “You should teach her a lesson. Let her understand who really calls the shots. Yesterday, she embarrassed you in front of all those business partners. If it were me, I wouldn’t have tolerated it. I know how to deal with women.

Look at my wife. No matter how much I go out and fool around, she keeps her mouth shut at home. Follow my way, Logan, and I guarantee Vivian will do exactly as you say. Even if you bring another woman right in front of her, she wouldn’t dare make a sound.”

Logan’s gaze darkened further as he asked, “And what do you suggest?”

Meanwhile, Stella had invited Vivian for a private dinner to thank her for securing Kingston’s

investment.

As they passed by Logan’s room, they overheard part of the conversation inside.

Stella shot a worried glance at Vivian, but Vivian stayed composed and paused in her tracks.

Zane lowered his voice, and a waiter stepped forward to close the door.

Vivian stopped it with a raised hand and walked in uninvited. “Go on. I want to hear how Mr.

Carter plans to teach me a lesson.”

She crossed her arms and leaned slightly against the private room’s doorframe. A faint smile played in her eyes, but it held no warmth.

The room went still. Everyone broke out in cold sweat, pretending to shuffle food around.

Zane froze, forcing a nervous laugh. “Vivian, I’m drunk. Don’t mind me.”

Logan’s frown deepened as he glared at Zane, then strode over to Vivian. “Vivian, why are you here?”

As he reached for her hand, she raised hers and pushed it away.
