Time Paused Between Silent Moments by Aven Slate 10
Chapter 10
“Luna!” James’s frown deepened.
He opened the door for Emily and Tommy, saw them upstairs, then returned with a dark expression, opening the driver’s door for me to switch.
But I walked straight into the back seat.
“Why not sit up front? Angry?”
I shook my head. “Just tired.”
Without Emily and Tommy, the car fell into a stifling silence.
James couldn’t hold back.
“This is the last time. After this, I’ll make things clear with Emily and Tommy. Luna, trust me one more time, okay?”
Under his hopeful gaze, I nodded.
He let out a long breath, relieved he’d dodged a bullet.
But inside, I felt barren.
It really didn’t matter anymore. I was leaving next Sunday.
Out of guilt, James was extra attentive this week.
He made breakfast proactively.
Too bad his cooking was terrible. It was inedible.
I said thanks, took the lunchbox he prepared, and threw it in the trash on my way out.
He started texting me frequently again, reporting his whereabouts, like we were back in the honeymoon phase.
