He had scratch marks on his face. Seeing me, he hurried over.
“Luna, listen, it’s not what you think!”
“It was just a punish game! Everyone was playing. That woman misunderstood and filmed it on purpose.”
Emily looked apologetic, but her eyes held a glint of triumph:
“Sorry, Luna. We’ve known each other since we were kids, we’re used to horsing around. Don’t worry, there’s really nothing between James and me.”
Before I could speak, the hostess from the station limped over and spat at Emily. “Scheming bitch!”
Emily went pale. James glared viciously at the hostess, his fists clenched audibly.
Tears welled in Emily’s eyes as if she’d been deeply wronged. “Luna, you have to believe James and I are innocent.”
“Mhm,” I said. “You’re innocent.”
“Alright, alright, let’s go home.” Sensing something off about me, James instinctively tried to smooth things over.
I opened the passenger door of his car. A child was sitting there. Seeing me, he made a face.
