One Side Love Novel Chapter 8

My desk was covered in white roses.

A small card peeked through the petals. “I’ll wait forever. I’ll change

everything. Just give me one more chance. – M”

I picked up the note. The handwriting was messy. Desperate.

My coworker Jenna leaned over. “Someone’s trying hard.”

I crumpled the card and tossed it in the trash.

The roses appeared every morning for a week.

Then came the gifts.

A designer handbag I’d glanced at once in a store window. Diamond earrings

I’d admired in a magazine. A first edition of my favorite book.

Miles showed up at my usual coffee shop on Tuesday.

“Fancy meeting you here,” he said, though his eyes were red-rimmed.

He’d never woken up before ten in the five years I knew him.

On Thursday, he was at the library near my apartment.

On Friday, outside my gym.

“It’s not stalking,” he insisted. “It’s coincidence.”

Noah stayed away.

He sent one text: “Take the time you need. I’m here when you decide.”

No pressure. No gifts. No roses.

Just space.

Miles cornered me after work on the sidewalk.

“Bianca, wait.” He grabbed my hand. “I left her.”

I stopped.

“I moved out of Eva’s place. I told her it’s over.”

His voice cracked. “Marry me tomorrow. We can go to the courthouse. No

waiting.”

My heart stuttered.

Five years I’d wanted those words.

Just not like this.

“I’ll delete all her contacts. I’ll quit gaming. I’ll be the man you wanted.”

He sounded sincere.

His hands trembled.

For a moment, I almost believed him.

Then I saw the pattern.

The same promises he’d made after every fight.

The same desperation after every time he’d chosen her.

“You’re thinking about it.” He stepped closer. “I see it in your eyes.”

My phone buzzed.

Eva’s name flashed on the screen.

I should ignore it.

I answered.

“Bianca, don’t trust him.”

Her voice was raw. Not the polished manipulation I knew.

“He’s at your apartment right now, isn’t he?”

I didn’t answer.

“He told me the same thing last night. ‘Eva, it’s over. I’m choosing Bianca.”

Silence stretched between us.

“Then this morning, he showed up with flowers. ‘One last time,’ he said. ‘For

the baby’s sake.”

She laughed bitterly.

“You think he’s changed? Bianca, he told me the exact same things he’s

telling you now. Word for word.”

The line went dead.

Miles was still talking.

“I’ll get us a house. In the suburbs, like you wanted. With a garden.”

His eyes held mine.

The same eyes that had watched Eva trip me.

The same eyes that had flickered with disgust before his hand hit my face.

I pulled my hand from his grasp.

“No.”

“Bianca—”

“The answer is no.”

His face hardened. “You’re making a mistake.”

“I made the mistake already. For five years.”

I turned away.

“This is about him, isn’t it?” Miles’ voice turned sharp. “Noah.”

I kept walking.

“You’ll come crawling back.”

I stopped. Turned around.

“Not this time.”

For the first time, I meant it.

My chest felt light.

Not tight. Not suffocating.

Just free.

I pulled out my phone and blocked his number.

The roses could wilt.

The gifts could be returned.

The past could stay in the past.

I dialed Noah.

He answered on the first ring.

“Bianca?”

“Can you meet me?”

His voice softened. “Where?”

“Anywhere.”

“I’ll be right there.”

I hung up and walked toward the subway.

Behind me, Miles was still shouting.

I didn’t turn back.

I never would again.
