One Side Love Novel Chapter 1

It happened at the bachelor party, during a game of Truth or Dare.

Eva looked straight at me and announced to the room, “I’m pregnant. The

baby is Miles!”

The whole room erupted in laughter. Everyone except Miles.

After the party, he explained, looking melancholy. “What Eva said is true.

Don’t overthink it. We are just good buddies.”

“It only happened because we blacked out drinking at the class reunion.”

“Her family situation isn’t great, and she doesn’t plan on getting married,” he

continued. “She just wants to keep this child for companionship.”

I nodded and asked calmly, “And so?”

“I am the father, after all; I have to take responsibility. From now on, I’ll stay

at her place weekdays to help her, and come home on weekends.”

He added, “Let’s cancel the wedding for now. Once she gives birth and

things go back to normal, I’ll make it up to you properly.”

I pulled the corners of my mouth into a smile. “That sounds good. You’ve

thought it through thoroughly.”

He visibly sighed in relief, grabbed his suitcase, and left without looking

back.

I wiped the tears from my eyes and began packing my own luggage.

Suddenly, my phone rang.

The person on the other end was heavily drunk, shouting with a crying tone.

“Bianca, I’ve liked you for so damn long! Don’t get married—marry me

instead, okay?”

I paused, then responded softly, “Okay”

I packed my luggage in one go and gently placed the engagement ring on

the vanity table.

Looking at the room filled with festive wedding decorations, an

indescribable bitterness surged in my heart.

Three years of secret unrequited love, five years of companionship.

We were supposed to walk down the aisle in three days, yet I was caught off

guard by his betrayal.

My tears were about to burst forth again, so I squeezed my eyes shut,

forcing them back.

Just as I was dragging my luggage out the door, Miles sent a text: “I forgot

my bath towel. Bring it over for me.”

“It’s at Eva’s place. You know the address, right?”

I curled my lips. Of course I knew.

Every month, he and a few classmates went to Eva’s apartment in the

suburbs for dinner to “bond.”

I’d had the “honor” of being brought along a few times.

Every time, I saw men sprawled on the sofa playing video games and

drinking beer.

Meanwhile, Eva wandered among them wearing spaghetti straps and hot

pants.

I had been jealous and asked Miles not to go anymore.

But he had retorted with disdain, “I need my social circle. Just because we’re

dating doesn’t mean we have to be stuck together every day.”

“We don’t even have common topics; staring at each other all day is boring”

he’d said.

“Relax. In my eyes, Eva is one of the bros. Even if she stood naked in front of

me, I wouldn’t react.”

Thinking back now, those words were nothing but lies to pacify me.

Seeing that I didn’t reply, Miles sent the address again.

I wanted to reply “No,” but my fingers strangely typed out “Received.”

My heart was full of bitterness, but ultimately, I wanted to see it with my

own eyes.

He had been pampered since childhood. He found peeling an orange too

troublesome—how could he possibly take care of a pregnant woman?

When I arrived at Eva’s door, I clutched the bag containing the towel tightly.

Eva opened the door quickly.

She was wearing a tight tank top and hot pants as always, pulling me into

the room with a bright smile.

Before I could react, she had already taken the bag.

“Sit down first. Miles is showering; I’ll take the towel to him.”

The sound of water in the bathroom suddenly stopped.

“Eva, hand me the towel,” Miles’ voice called out, carrying a familiar laziness.

A few minutes later, Miles walked out with a towel wrapped around his

waist.

He shook his wet hair, shouting naturally, “Eva, help me blow-dry my hair.”

Eva stood on her tiptoes and ruffled his hair messily, scoffing.

“Miles, who exactly is taking care of whom? Don’t get it twisted, I’m the

pregnant one!”

He clicked his tongue and pretended to tickle her waist. Then, his gaze

landed on me, sitting in the shadows.

He casually handed the hairdryer toward me, his tone dismissive.

“Eva, I won’t trouble you anymore. Save you from clumsily ruining my hair.

My wife knows how to take care of people better than you!”

Wife? To anyone watching, Eva looked much more like his wife here.

I avoided his gaze and stood up briskly. “I don’t have time. I’m leaving.”

He grabbed my wrist, his face showing displeasure. “Can’t you give me some

face?”

“Face?” I laughed coldly.

“Miles, she is carrying your child. You moved into her house. And now you

want *me* to give you face?”

“When you ‘family of three’ were having a good time, did you ever consider

my feelings?”

Eva smilingly pulled Miles away and winked at me. “Bianca, I really treat

Miles as a biological brother.”

“My personality is just like this; I’m carefree. Don’t take it to heart,” she said.

“He’s just here to take care of the baby. It’s pure brotherhood. Even if we

slept in the same bed, nothing would happen.”

As she spoke, she hooked her pinky around Miles’ pinky and shook it.

“Why don’t you go back with Bianca? I can manage alone; this little thing

won’t stump me.”

“I don’t care,” Miles said. “Once the baby is born, you just have to be the dad.”

As soon as the words fell, Eva covered her mouth and began to dry heave.
