You Chose Her, so I Married Better Chapter 31

Chapter 31

Raymond turned on Zachary, his gaze sharp. “Did you bring Regina back?”

Zachary’s face went pale. All the arrogance drained out of him in an instant. “Grandpa, I…”

“What else do you want to say?” Raymond snapped, his voice shaking with anger.

Raymond could overlook Zachary’s flings. But he would never tolerate him humiliating and hurting Genevieve for some woman who didn’t belong anywhere near the Lambert family.

Genevieve had saved Raymond’s life more than once. Without her, he would have passed on years ago.

Before Zachary could scramble for an excuse, Tristan spoke again, his tone calm. “Grandpa, don’t get worked up. Your health is more important.”

Ever since Tristan returned, the Lambert family had never been at peace. The constant stress only made Raymond’s health deteriorate.

Genevieve almost thought that Tristan was sincerely trying to comfort Raymond.

But a second later, Tristan added, “But he didn’t just bring Ms. Sloane back. He signed her on as Lambert Group’s chief perfumer. Genevieve must be pretty upset.”

Zachary had signed his mistress into his own company and even made her chief perfumer. It was no different from shoving a blade into Genevieve’s hand and demanding that she plunge it into her own heart.

“You… You ungrateful brat!” Raymond snapped. Rage blurred his vision, and his breath hitched as his body tipped backward.

“Grandpa!” Genevieve’s pupils contracted.

Zachary and Tristan were practically pushing Raymond into an early grave.

Genevieve hurried to her medical kit, drew out the needles, and inserted them into key points on Raymond’s chest.

As her hands moved, she tried to calm him down. “Grandpa, don’t get angry. Take a deep breath.”

Zachary stood there, furious and panicked. But when he looked at Tristan’s perfectly composed face, he couldn’t force out a single rebuttal.

Since Tristan’s return, Zachary had been quietly digging into his past, trying to find something he could use against him- but he never uncovered a single real weakness.

Now, with just a few casual words from Tristan, Zachary found himself unable to argue back.

Zachary was so furious that his chest felt tight. For a split second, he almost wished that Genevieve would give him a couple

of needles, too.

After a long moment, the tight knot between Raymond’s brows finally eased.

He opened his eyes, looked around the room, and then his gaze settled on Genevieve.

Something complicated flickered in his eyes. He let out a long sigh. “Gen, help me back to my room.”

He glanced at Tristan, then looked at Zachary. There was nothing in his eyes now but disappointment.

Tristan gave a curt nod.

As Genevieve guided Raymond past Tristan, she said in a low voice, “If anything happens, call me.”

Zachary’s fists clenched so hard that his nails dug into his palms. The fury in his chest had nowhere to go.

Back in the bedroom, Raymond took a few shallow breaths, then gripped Genevieve’s hand.

“Gen, Zachary just doesn’t know how to appreciate you. Don’t stay mad at him. Couples fight, but they don’t hold grudges for life. I’m begging you. Give him one more chance, okay?”

Genevieve looked at Raymond’s aged, sincere face. She couldn’t bring herself to say that she wanted a divorce. She simply tucked the blanket around him in silence.

To Raymond, her silence felt like a glimmer of hope.

By the time dinner was served, Tristan had already left. Only the three of them remained at the table.

Zachary sat like a scolded child, his head bowed the entire time, barely daring to make a sound.

Raymond ate only a few bites before he suddenly pressed a hand to his chest and started coughing hard, like he might collapse again at any second.

“Grandpa!” Zachary shot to his feet, panicked.

“I’m fine.” Raymond waved him off, but his face had gone even paler. “My chest just feels tight. Your mom rushed back to her family this afternoon. Tonight, you two aren’t leaving. Stay here and keep me company.”

Then, he looked at Genevieve and said, “Gen, I’ll only be at ease if you stay.”
