Cilantro Taste Novel Chapter 9

You Thought Cilantro Was Just a Flavor? It’s Actually My FU, Cheater! by Mark Twain 9

Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Edward signed the papers.

But signing didn’t mean he was done trying.

During the mandatory waiting period, he turned it up to eleven-suddenly more attentive than he’d been in years.

Nonstop texts, flowers at my door every other day, expensive jewelry I never opened.

Pathetic.

I left it all outside with the trash.

Word got around that he’d fired Ruby.

Her last day, she stood outside his office for over an hour, clutching her box of belongings, mascara running down her face.

He never even opened the door.

Someone from the company had recorded my little expose and posted it online.

It blew up locally within hours.

Ruby tried applying to other firms after that-got turned down by every single one.

Last I heard, she was still jobless.

Edward’s parents started calling the second they found out-voicemails, texts, the whole guilt trip routine.

Then nothing. They must’ve finally heard what really happened.

When the waiting period ended, I showed up at the courthouse to make it official.

Edward was already there, leaning against the steps.

He looked wrecked.

Twenty pounds lighter, eyes red-rimmed and hollow, wrapped in this black coat like he was mourning something. Maybe he was,

“Let’s get this over with.”

I walked past him without stopping.

The clerk moved fast.

The moment that divorce certificate hit my hand, I felt like I could breathe again.

Outside, Edward reached for my arm.

I pulled back before he could touch me.

His eyes went soft-that wounded puppy look he’d perfected.

“Whitney, please. Can’t we just… start over? I know what I did. I’ll do better.”

I looked at him for half a second, said nothing, and walked away.

You can cut the rot out of an apple, but it’s still a rotten apple.

Don’t look back, girl. Keep walking.
