You Thought Cilantro Was Just a Flavor? It’s Actually My FU, Cheater! by Mark Twain 5
Chapter 5
Chapter 5
When we first got married, we weren’t ready for kids.
We were building careers, chasing goals-we were careful.
A few years in, we relaxed about it.
Stopped preventing, but weren’t actively trying either.
We figured it’d happen when it happened. We were healthy, no reason to stress.
I just never imagined it would happen like this.
I stared at the chart: Spontaneous abortion at 5 weeks gestation.
I’d been about to confront my husband about his emotional affair, and I was pregnant.
I didn’t even know. And now that tiny life was gone.
Ruby’s social media was a constant stream of Paris.
Every post featured her and Edward.
Romantic cafés. Sunset walks. Captions dripping with implication.
The most recent one was from some bistro.
A plate of pasta, absolutely drowning in cilantro.
The photo was angled just right-you could see the hands of whoever sat across from her.
The wedding band on his left hand glinted in the light.
Caption: [Cilantro haters are MISSING OUT! If you don’t like it, you’re wrong!]
So she was the cilantro lover.
I’d been so stupid.
I’d actually considered fighting for him. And it cost me my child.
I didn’t tell my parents right away.
They were getting older, and I wasn’t some scared kid anymore.
Sarah came by every evening after work to help me through recovery.
A month later, I was released. Edward flew back from Paris.
I’d spent every single day of that month thinking.
Screw “working on the marriage.”

Screw he didn’t technically cheat.”
A man who’s already halfway out the door is the most dangerous kind.
He’d been so checked out I’d nearly died. I’d lost our baby because of his carelessness.
Divorce wasn’t a question anymore. It was inevitable.
But I wasn’t going to let myself-or the child I’d lost-be forgotten.
He was going to PAY for what he’d done.
And I already had a plan.
