When Zachary woke up again, he was in a hospital bed. He tried to sit up and frantically searched the room for Autumn.
A nurse heard him moving around and hurried over. “Don’t move or you’ll tear your stitches.”
Zachary asked urgently, “Did anyone come see me?”
The nurse thought for a second and nodded. “Yeah, don’t worry. He went to grab you some soup. He’ll be back soon.”
Zachary didn’t hear it clearly and assumed she meant Autumn. The thought that she still cared enough to look after him made him relax. Autumn had always been softhearted. Maybe it wouldn’t take long before she forgave him.
A few minutes later, someone pushed the hospital room door open.
Zachary thought it was Autumn coming through the door and looked over eagerly, but when he saw it was Damon, his expression turned ice cold.
“Why are you here? Where’s Autumn? Did you stop her from seeing me?”
Damon set the soup down on the bedside table. “I’d never force Autumn to do anything she doesn’t want to do. She doesn’t want to see you.”
“That’s impossible!” Zachary got worked up. “I saved Autumn’s life. There’s no way she wouldn’t want to see me!”
Damon’s face stayed neutral. “Actually, it’s not that she doesn’t want to see you. The bridal makeup is just really complicated and she can’t get away to come to the hospital right now, so I’m here instead. You know, as the groom.”
“I don’t believe you! You’re lying to me! I need to see Autumn!”
Seeing how agitated Zachary was getting, Damon sighed. “Fine, I’ll let you see her.”
Damon pulled out his phone and started a video call. It connected after just one ring.
“Damon, what’s wrong? Is everything okay at the hospital?”
Before Damon could answer, Zachary’s anxious voice cut in. “Autumn, Damon said you’re still having the engagement ceremony today. He’s lying, right?”

Autumn smiled, “No, he’s not lying. I’m getting engaged today. Zachary, I’m grateful that you saved me, I really am. But that’s all it is. If you really need me to thank you properly, Damon and I will bring you a gift after the engagement party.”
Zachary refused to give up. “Autumn, are you really that heartless? You won’t forgive me even though I almost died for you? That doesn’t make you feel anything?”
“But Zachary, if it wasn’t for you, I never would’ve been in danger in the first place. Right?”
Zachary had no response to that. He couldn’t come up with a single word to defend himself.

Autumn looked at him through the screen. “Zachary, if you ever really loved me, then please stay out of my life. Don’t come around anymore. I really like how peaceful things are now. Your kind of love is too dangerous. I can’t handle it and I don’t want it.”
She ended the call.
After a long silence, Zachary closed his eyes. A single tear slid down his cheek.
At that moment, he finally believed that Autumn truly didn’t love him anymore. She was right. All he ever brought her was danger. If he couldn’t give her the happiness she wanted, then at least he could eliminate the danger at its source.
Once Zachary recovered from his injuries, he went to the detention center. He signed a statement of forgiveness as Kristen’s husband and brought her home.
On the drive back, he smiled at her, “Kristen, from now on, let’s stay together forever, okay?”
Kristen thought Zachary had struck out with Autumn and was finally coming back to her.
“Okay, fine. Let’s just leave the past in the past.”
Before she could even finish the sentence, she suddenly realized the car was speeding up.
“Zachary, what are you doing?” Kristen panicked.
Zachary didn’t answer. The only response she got was the deafening roar of an explosion.
Autumn found out about Zachary and Kristen’s deaths in a car crash right after she and Damon had finished their wedding ceremony.
When Damon brought it up, he seemed hesitant. “Autumn, Zachary’s mother already passed away from a heart attack, and now, nobody in the Hayes family wants to claim their bodies…”
Autumn listened quietly for a long moment before finally speaking. “Let’s pay for a proper

It was finally over. All the grudges and pain could be laid to rest.

Autumn took Damon’s hand and pulled him into a soft embrace while everyone around them cheered and celebrated.
“I’m so glad I have you,” she whispered.
