Woke Up and Left the Cage of My Marriage 24

Chapter 24

She was nearly incoherent, crying out every injustice and pain she’d suffered over the past three years.

She could barely see from crying, but she didn’t care. She just had to let it all go.

Ethan didn’t dodge. He didn’t fight back. He just sat there on the ground, letting her hit him, letting her curse him.

Every single word cut through him like a knife, torturing a heart already torn to pieces.

He reached for her-ignoring her punches, holding her tight, like he was afraid she’d vanish. Like he needed to fuse her into his bones just to survive.

“I’m sorry… Natalie… I’m sorry…” he choked, again and again. Scalding tears dripped onto her neck. “I’m a bastard… I was blind… I failed you… Hit me, curse me, whatever you want… Just

don’t leave me…”

Natalie fought in his arms, sobbing so hard she couldn’t breathe. “Let me go! Let me go! Ethan Fletcher, I hate you! I’ll never forgive you!”

“Hate me all you want…” Ethan only held her tighter, his voice broken, shaking, nothing left but pleading. “Just don’t leave me… Natalie… Without you… I really will die…”

At last, it seemed like Natalie’s strength gave out. Her cries grew softer, turning into ragged

little sobs.

She slumped against him, not fighting anymore, just leaning weakly into his arms, soaking

his shirt with her tears.

Time passed. It might have been minutes, it might have been forever. Soft rain started to fall from the sky, brushing against them.

Ethan finally heard her voice, faint and muffled by her sobs. “Ethan Fletcher… I hate you.’

This time, it wasn’t a sharp accusation. It was hollow, empty, the sound of someone whose

soul was drained.

Ethan’s heart clenched so hard he flinched. But he only hugged her tighter, desperate like he’d found his only lifeline.

He bent his head, his lips trembling as he kissed her rain- and tear-soaked hair. His voice was raw with both relief and pain:

“Hate me all you want… Just don’t leave me…”

The rain fell harder, icy needles piercing them as it drenched their bodies.

But neither one moved. They stayed like that in the empty arena, clinging to each other-two wounded souls, holding on with everything they had. One cried until there was nothing left;

the other held on like he’d never let go.
