She got the divorce and bolted 87
Melody’s expression stiffened for a moment, but she quickly composed herself and said smugly, “You only saw me fall–you didn’t see how worried Clay was. He rushed over immediately and carried me to the hospital. I wonder who has it harder.
–
“What’s the point of you winning a war of words with me now? Tell me if you were the one who fell, would he even have spared you a glance?”
Sienna pressed her lips together and fell silent.
She knew the answer.
Clayton was obsessed with his pride and image. He was always going on about not embarrassing him. If she had fallen in public, he would probably have scolded her for being stupid and then stayed miles away from her, pretending not to know
her.
Melody lightly brushed the loose strands of hair by her ear, a triumphant smile curving her red lips. “Clay even came to visit me on set yesterday. You were there, weren’t you? I only coughed a few times and he was already worried sick. He immediately told someone to put an air purifier in my lounge.”
“Why did you suddenly go mute? Got nothing to say?” she mocked.
Sienna’s fingertips grew cold, but her expression remained calm.
Seeing this, Melody’s smile deepened. “Sienna, a wise person knows when to yield. No matter how desperately you cling on, it’s useless. You’ve never had a place in his heart.”
She paused, as if suddenly remembering something. “Oh, you don’t know, do you? Back in your first year of high school, you painstakingly folded a thousand origami cranes and gave them to Clay as a birthday present, remember? He didn’t even look at them. He tossed them straight into the storage room to gather dust.”
Sienna’s breath hitched. It felt as though something had lodged in her throat, leaving her unable to speak.
Of course she knew.
In those first few years after she met Clayton, she had foolishly found joy in giving him all sorts of gifts. He always accepted them coldly, and most of them were never even opened.
Melody took obvious pleasure in how pale Sienna’s face was. She continued twisting the knife.
“Later, when I went to his place, I thought those cranes were pretty interesting and asked him for them. He said they were useless trash, and I didn’t believe him at first. But after I took them back, they just took up space, so I had someone throw
them away.
“But honestly, your cranes were really old–fashioned. All you wrote inside were things like “wish you peace and joy” and ” may everything go smoothly“-just a bunch of meaningless lines. I thought you’d at least write some mushy love confessions.”
Sienna’s fingers curled unconsciously into tight fists, bitterness and anger surging in her chest. It had taken her more than two whole months to fold those cranes.
She was afraid that writing love confessions would cross the line, yet also afraid that writing nothing at all wouldn’t convey her feelings.
In the end, she could only awkwardly copy down the simplest wishes, wishing him peace and joy and that everything would be smooth–sailing for him.
That was what youthful infatuation was like–so cautious, yet aching to offer up one’s entire heart. She would never be able to have such sincere, passionate feelings a second time.

Now, she only wished she could go back and slap some sense into that lovestruck version of herself. She couldn’t believe she had exposed so many of her weaknesses to such a scumbag.
Sienna took a deep breath and looked up at Melody, her lips tugging into a cold smile. “Do you think I’m shameless like you that I’d write nauseating love letters? That was just an ordinary birthday gift. Since I gave it to him, he can give it to whoever he wants.
“Ms. Foster, don’t talk about accepting someone else’s secondhand leftovers as if it’s something glorious, much less act so arrogantly about being a mistress.”
Melody’s expression shifted slightly before she sneered. “Sienna, stop pretending you don’t care. You’re already talking about divorce. You keep calling me a mistress, but isn’t that just because you couldn’t keep him?
“If he cared about you even a little, how would I even exist? Why don’t you be sensible and give up already? It’d make things easier for us. Wouldn’t that make everyone happy?”
Sienna hadn’t expected Clayton to be in such a hurry that he had already told Melody about their divorce. He told her not to make it public, yet he had leaked the news like a sieve himself.
Sienna suddenly laughed, though the smile never reached her eyes.
“If you’re so desperate to take my place, then go urge your Clay. Or better yet, go straight to the Hale family and see if they’ll accept you. Why come and show off in front of me?
“The one who’s anxious is you, not me. Why should I do as you wish? For now, just behave yourself and be a good little mistress. When this part of your acting career gets dug up in the future, we’ll see if you can still be this smug.”
With that, Sienna forcefully bumped into Melody’s shoulder and walked away.
Melody staggered half a step, her high heel twisting. The carefully crafted mask on her face finally cracked, revealing a dark, sullen fissure beneath.
