She got the divorce and bolted 56

Chapter 56

“Get on with your work. Pretend I’m not here,” Sienna said.

Rowan’s desk sat about ten feet outside the CEO’s office. His curved workstation housed stacks of documents. There were two empty seats nearby for secretaries, who were probably all in the meeting.

He asked cautiously, “W–would you like some coffee?”

“No,” Sienna replied.

After Rowan returned to his desk, he felt as though he were sitting on pins and needles. The moment he answered a call, he felt a gaze settle on him.

Sienna was staring at him without blinking.

Rowan forced himself to focus as he handled his work. “Mr. Larson, the project budget needs to be reassessed. Yes, Mr. Hale wants it kept within 12%…”

After hanging up, he approved several more documents. His hand shook so badly while signing that he could barely hold the

pen.

He couldn’t help but wonder fearfully if Sienna had had a change of heart and had taken a liking to him. The thought scared him so much that he broke out in a cold sweat. He sneaked a glance at Sienna and saw her smiling at him.

Rowan’s heart skipped a beat. That smile was even scarier than when Clayton lost his temper.

Terrified, he lowered his head and kept reviewing documents, the tip of his pen nearly stabbing through the paper.

In his mind, he was screaming in horror, “I’m done for! If Mr. Hale sees this, will he ship me off to the faraway Sekrania

branch?”

After an hour of Rowan enduring excruciating mental torment, Clayton finally returned from the meeting.

From afar, Clayton saw Sienna staring intently at Rowan.

With a frown, he walked over and waved a hand in front of her eyes. “What now? Do you have a crush on my assistant?”

Sienna snapped back to her senses, blinking in surprise.

Then, she deliberately provoked him. “Well, Mr. Grant is pretty good–looking.”

Clayton’s expression turned icy as he shot Rowan a death glare.

A chill ran down Rowan’s spine, and he continued to cry in his heart, “Mrs. Hale, why do you have to tell the truth like that? Even if I am devastatingly handsome, you really didn’t have to say it out loud!”

“Mrs. Hale, please stop joking! I’ll get you some coffee!” Rowan blurted and fled to the pantry at lightning speed.

Clayton ignored him and asked Sienna, “Why are you here?”

Sienna brushed her bangs aside, her tone light and airy. “I’m just looking around.”

Clayton eyed her suspiciously. “If you’ve got something to say, spit it out. Stop putting on airs.”

Sienna seemed lost in her own world. She touched her face and feigned surprise. “Oh, my makeup looks a little smudged.”

At that moment, Rowan returned with coffee and set it on the table. Sienna casually rummaged through her bag and ” accidentally” dropped a sheet of paper. She let it flutter onto the floor.

Rowan bent down to pick it up. When he caught sight of the words “Offer Letter“, the cogwheels in his brain started turning furiously.

He immediately played along by exclaiming dramatically, “Wow! You got an offer from Jierre Studios, Mrs. Hale! That’s a top -tier design firm!”

Sienna waved her hand modestly. “Oh, it’s nothing. At least now someone can’t keep saying I can’t survive without him.”

Mimicking Clayton’s tone, she added sarcastically, “I believe he said I couldn’t make it with my own abilities. He also said something along the lines of me not being able to land a good job without the Hale and the Winger families.”

As she spoke, she spread the offer letter open in front of Clayton. Her eyes sparkled as though they were filled with starlight.

“Open your damn eyes and look properly! Who says I can’t get a job on my own?” Sienna bragged without holding back.

Clayton, however, chuckled softly. “Are you sure you got the job on your own?”

“What are you trying to say?” Sienna’s smile faded slightly, and her guard went up.

Clayton leisurely loosened his tie. His next words were incredibly cruel.

“Your brother, Ethan, signed a deal with Jierre Studios just a few days ago. He specifically spoke to their HR department and told them to hire you. It’s one thing to lie to yourself, Sienna. But to show off so blatantly like this? Are you afraid people won’t know you got in through the back door?

“If you love showing off so much, I suggest you frame that offer letter. Engrave a little line underneath that says, ‘Special thanks to Ethan for the family–sponsored opportunity.‘

“That way, when you turn out to be less capable than other people and your colleagues ask how you got the job, you won’t have to rack your brain making things up.”
