She Got the Divorce and Bolted Novel Chapter 53

She got the divorce and bolted 53

That single “okay” stunned both Sienna and Irene.

Sienna stared at him in shock, disbelief written all over her face.

What nonsense was Clayton spouting? Could it be that, since Melody refused to have a child for the sake of her acting career, he planned to have her give birth first, then kick her out and let Melody take over as the kid’s mom? She couldn’t let that happen!

Clayton, meanwhile, looked perfectly calm and went on adding fuel to the fire. “She really does need to take better care of herself. She’s so weak that one gust of wind would probably blow her away. I’ll have to trouble you to take good care of her,

Mom.

“Otherwise, when she gives birth someday, I’m afraid the baby will come right out when she sneezes.”

Irene was delighted to hear Clayton’s positive response for once.

She readily agreed and then turned to Sienna. “When you’re free, come visit Dr. Yates with me and get a few prescriptions. I guarantee they’ll work. Look how pale you are right now. Your complexion will be much rosier after you start the medication.

Sienna awkwardly agreed but cursed furiously in her mind.

In the past two years, Irene prepared lots of folk remedies for her. Sienna hated the bitterness of those concoctions and had secretly poured them out every time.

Clayton had once seen the look on her face when she drank it. She looked like she was heading to the guillotine. After that, he had forbidden Irene from putting her on those remedies.

The moment they stepped out of the hospital, Sienna dropped the act. She grabbed Clayton and started to berate him.

She fumed, “What nonsense were you talking about just now? We’re about to get divorced! What’s this about preparing for pregnancy? Did you fall and hurt your head? Go prepare for the pregnancy yourself if you want to!”

Then, she paused abruptly, as if she had just realized something. “You did that on purpose, didn’t you? Are you purposely making me suffer by letting your mom give me those bitter–as–hell concoctions again?”

Clayton slipped one hand into his pocket and smirked tauntingly. “You guessed it.”

Sienna was so mad that she pinched his arm hard. “You go clarify it with Mom right now! I’m not drinking those medicines!

Or else-”

“Or else what?” He raised an eyebrow.

“Or else… or else…” She fumbled for a long moment and still couldn’t come up with a proper threat. “I’ll tell you when I think

of one!” she said at last.

Rowan had just parked the car and walked over at the right moment. “This way, Mr. and Mrs. Hale.”

“No need to drive me,” Sienna snapped, turning to leave.

Clayton reached out and grabbed her bag. “Where are you going? You’ve been dressing up and running around every day lately. A housewife should stay at home. Are you seeing another man outside? Or are you going to a cafe to flirt with young college goers again?”

“It’s none of your business,” Sienna hissed and yanked hard.

In the scuffle, the bag’s zipper gave way. The contents of Sienna’s bag spilled all over the ground. Her résumé fluttered down to Clayton’s feet.

He scooped it up reflexively and glanced at it with a frown. “Are you hunting for a job?”

Sienna snatched the résumé back. “Yeah. I’ll need to have my own income after the divorce.”

Hearing her mention divorce again and again made Clayton’s ears buzz and his temper flare.

He sneered. “Are you tired of your easy life and want to be a career woman now? I pay for everything you would need. And now you suddenly want to work hard and survive on what–a salary of around seven or eight thousand dollars? Don’t you find that ridiculous?”

He looked her up and down and said mercilessly, “You probably don’t even know how to use an office printer. Do you think the workplace is child’s play? I suggest you stop embarrassing yourself out there.”

Sienna held the résumé tightly in her hand, her expression defiant. “If I don’t try, how would I know?”

Clayton scoffed and went on, “You haven’t worked a single day since you graduated from college. Do you have any idea how brutal the real world is? This isn’t home. No one out there is going to let you have it your way. Pride doesn’t put food on the

table.

“Even if you’re a full–time housewife, no one looks down on you.”

So if Melody wanted to act in a stage play, he had no problem with that at all. If she wanted to enter the entertainment industry, he would even finance her ambition.

But when it came to Sienna, all of a sudden, it was the whole “keep your head down and be a stay–at–home wife” expectation.
