Chapter 47

The moment Sienna opened her eyes, Clayton’s handsome face was right in front of her. A few strands of his hair fell loosely onto his forehead from the slap she’d just landed.

“Why are you here?” She instinctively scooted backward.

Clayton rubbed the spot on his forehead that had been hit. “This is my office and my desk. And you’re asking me why I’m here?”

Sienna lifted a hand to touch her cheek, which felt a little damp. “Why were you leaning in so close? Are you trying to ambush me?”

“I was checking whether you’d drooled on my book. Who knows? Maybe you’re taking revenge on me in some convoluted way,” Clayton said coolly, his gaze sweeping over the open pages.

Sienna glanced down at the book guiltily and confirmed that there was no sign of any stains.

Then, she retorted stubbornly, “As if!”

With that, she snapped the book shut. She didn’t realize that she had tucked the sheet of paper with the Tightwad drawing inside it before shoving it back onto the shelf. When that was done, she turned to leave.

Clayton grabbed her wrist. “Where are you running off to? Let’s eat first.”

Only then did Sienna notice the two boxed meals on the desk.

After reading for two hours and taking a nap, she was hungry. She grabbed one, plopped down on the couch, and started eating.

Clayton didn’t touch his food. Instead, he sat at his desk and worked through documents.

Sienna complained under her breath that he was being pretentious with his workaholic act. Why wasn’t he hungry now? Wasn’t he the one who demanded that she send his lunch over immediately in the afternoon? He had made it sound as if he would starve to death if she were a minute late.

When she finished eating, Clayton finally opened his own box. “Pick out the green onions for me.”

Sienna refused without a second thought. “No.”

Clayton looked up. “Aren’t you the best at that?”

Sienna’s lips curled into a mock–polite smile. “That’s a different price.”

“Two thousand dollars,” Clayton replied instantly, clearly familiar with the routine by now.

Upon hearing that he would pay her, Sienna walked over without another word. She picked up the fork and started removing the green onions in a much more relaxed manner compared to how she usually did it.

Clayton tapped the desk a few times, clearly dissatisfied. “You didn’t pick them clean. If your eyesight’s that bad, go get yourself a pair of glasses.”

Sienna dropped the fork right away. “That’s what a 2,000–dollar service looks like. Take it or leave it!”

Clayton stared at her bristling expression and suddenly burst out in laughter. He didn’t nitpick anymore and made do with

his meal.

Sienna had assumed that Clayton was so insistent that she come with him because he wanted her to accompany him to meet some clients or attend some banquet to put on a show of being happily married in public. After all, he’d done that plenty of

times before.

Instead, she was dragged to an exclusive theater. A massive poster of Melody hung prominently at the entrance.

Sienna instantly understood and tried to shake herself free from Clayton’s grasp. “Why did you bring me here?”

Clayton held onto her firmly. “To watch a play and improve your taste.”

Sienna sneered. “My taste does need improvement. Otherwise, how would I have married you?”

Clayton tightened his grip and narrowed his eyes. “If not me, then who? That bastard Samuel?”

“What’s the difference between a bastard and a scumbag?” she shot back.

The two were locked in a standoff when Hayden and Miles walked over.

Hayden sized them up with a grin. “What’s this? Are you guys fighting over what happened this morning?”

Miles instantly started sniffing around for gossip. “What happened this morning?”

He was dying to catch Sienna slipping up and using it to get even in their arguments.

Sienna saw right through him and shot him a sideways glance. “Kids shouldn’t be so curious. Go play in the sandbox and stay out of adult business, or your toddler brain may not develop properly.”

Miles instantly got all riled up. “What kid can casually give you a million dollars, huh? You’re pushing it, Sienna!”

Sienna made a face at him. “So what? If I can make you willingly fork out money, I won’t just get in your face. I’ll do even more outrageous things!”

Miles turned livid. “Why, you! If it weren’t for Clayton…”

Hayden hurriedly stepped in to smooth things over by pushing Miles inside. “Alright. You two are like elementary school kids. You always fight the second you meet. The show’s already started. Let’s go inside.”

Sienna was unwilling to go, but she couldn’t break free from Clayton’s grip. She couldn’t help but wonder what he’d been eating as he grew up. He was incredibly strong.

“I’m not going. Why drag me along? If you want to watch, watch it yourself,” Sienna complained.

Clayton didn’t let go. “I paid for it.”

So he had thought it through. No wonder he had transferred her the money earlier in the car without a fuss. Sienna cursed

that she’d been careless and hadn’t connected the dots.

“I want a refund,” she said through gritted teeth.

“Denied,” Clayton uttered with finality and dragged her inside despite her reluctance.

Sienna shoved and protested all the way in until they entered the auditorium. The lights dimmed abruptly, and the seating. area was plunged into darkness. The hall wasn’t full, but there were plenty of people inside.

She instantly fell silent.
