She got the divorce and bolted 41

Chapter 41

Clayton couldn’t quite believe his ears. “What? Can you register for one without a verification code?”

Rowan let out an awkward laugh and replied, “Some small sites are like that. There are low barriers to entry. My mom once registered me on one because she was worried about my marriage. Just tweak the settings to block the unknown calls and messages. It’ll quiet down after a while.

“But you’re already married, so how would-”

He stopped mid–sentence, looked up, and met Clayton’s frosty gaze. Understanding dawned instantly as he blurted, “Was it Mrs. Hale?”

Clayton pinched the bridge of his nose and said with a clenched jaw, “Who else would have the nerve to do such a thing?”

“Should I block the calls?” Rowan asked, doing his best to suppress a laugh.

Clayton shot him an unamused look. “What do you think?”

Rowan hurriedly looked down and tapped away to adjust the settings. Unfortunately, by a slip of his hand, he accidentally opened a voice message.

“I can pole–dance, Clayton. Want to come take a look?”

Rowan froze and stood still in fear.

“Get out and fix it. If you can’t handle this, forget about this month’s bonus,” Clayton snapped, his patience at its limit.

Rowan was glad to be granted permission to leave. Clutching the phone, he bolted. In his heart, he berated himself for making two consecutive mistakes earlier. At this rate, he was in serious danger of being dismissed from his job.

That evening, when Clayton got home and reached the second floor, he noticed the door to the screening room was slightly ajar. A faint glow leaked out through the small crack.

He pushed the door open. On the TV screen, the male and female leads were having a hysterical argument.

Sienna, meanwhile, was asleep on the couch. Her breathing was slow and even. One strap of her dress had slipped down her arm, revealing a stretch of fair, smooth skin.

Clayton was amused at how she was able to sleep through all that noise. She sure was a sound sleeper.

So, he walked over and switched off the TV. The moment the screen went black, Sienna stirred immediately.

She blinked groggily and asked, “What are you doing?”

Getting straight to the point, Clayton asked, “Was it you?”

Sienna sat up lazily, playing dumb. “What?”

“You used my phone number to register for an account on a matchmaking site,” he said with certainty.

Sienna didn’t deny it and just shrugged nonchalantly. “It could’ve been one of your enemies.”

Clayton braced one hand on the back of the couch beside her, boxing her in. “So, you’re the enemy, right?”

“It was me. So what?” Sienna met his gaze head–on, so unabashed that it bordered on provocation. “I wanted to see if it worked, so I tried your number first. That lady promoting the website made it sound so attractive. Even I was tempted.

“Now that you’ve tried it, tell me how it was. Were the candidates of good quality?”

Clayton narrowed his eyes at her. “Are you planning to go on blind dates? We’re not even divorced yet, and you’re so eagerly

looking for your next spouse already?”

Sienna smiled and responded airily, “I’m just preparing in advance. What if I’m not desirable after the divorce and can’t find someone right away? Men and women fare differently after divorce, you know?

“I’m not a rich and handsome guy like you. Women come flocking to you the moment you wave at them. I have to plan for myself.

“Don’t worry, though. In the month before the divorce, I’ll still keep up appearances for you. But after that, I’m definitely dating a dozen men. Then, I’ll pick the best-”

Before she could finish, Clayton suddenly lowered his head and sealed her lips. The kiss came fast and fierce, and it carried a hint of punishment.

Sienna instinctively resisted, but Clayton clasped the back of her head and deepened it. She fell back against the couch with her palms pressed to his chest as she shoved hard. She even pounded his shoulder with her fists, but he didn’t budge.

His kiss was forceful and domineering, and it nearly stole all her breath. After ravaging her for two full minutes, he bit her lip hard before finally pulling away.

“You’re getting more and more out of line lately,” Clayton said.

Wincing, Sienna wiped her mouth with the back of her hand and scooted back quickly. “Are you a dog or something? Why’d you bite me?”

“Your mouth was asking for it.” Clayton stared at her unblinkingly, his gaze growing darker by the second.

Sienna was wearing a pale green silk slip dress that night. Under the dim light, she was practically glowing, as the fabric contrasted nicely with her skin.
