Chapter 39
Beads of cold sweat slid down Rowan’s face as he nearly dropped to his knees in apology. “I’m so sorry, Mr. Hale! I thought you meant the delivery guy when you said to bring the person up…”
Clayton shot him a frigid glance. “Are you really clueless or intellectually challenged?”
“I-I think Mrs. Hale is making a peace offering! She didn’t even send food previously. Now, she’s willing to order delivery for you. That means she’s putting thought into it. This is progress! Give it some time, and she’ll be delivering the meals in person!” Rowan scrambled to save his hide.
Clayton’s frown deepened. “Do I look like I was born yesterday? Get out!”
Rowan fled at lightning speed, leaving Hayden behind. He, on the other hand, was more than happy to watch the chaos unfold.
He teased, “Didn’t you say it’s all well with Sienna now? I don’t see how your food takeout reflects that. Are you being serious with me?”
“You get out too,” Clayton snapped, chasing him out.
“Got it. This single man can only go make do at some random restaurant,” Hayden said in a cheerful, sing-song voice as he headed for the door.
Before he left, he added insult to injury one last time with a sly grin. “I’m so jealous of you. After all, wives who care enough to replenish their husbands’ bodies are rare indeed!”
The air around Clayton seemed to stifle as he stared daggers at the rich spread.
He dialed Sienna’s number and said with barely restrained anger, “What’s the meaning of this food?”
On the other end, Sienna’s voice was casual and unbothered. “It’s for you to eat. Why? Do you not like the dishes?”
She paused and switched to a bright and cheerful tone. “Oh yeah! There’s actually another deluxe set of dishes. They’re perfect for executives who frequently work overtime. If you need it next time, I can help you order it. It’s guaranteed to keep you energized, and you can go at it all night.”
Clayton felt the vein at his temple throbbing as he listened to her sarcastic words. “I told you to bring me food, and you sent me takeout? You’re just brushing me off!”
“Isn’t takeout food still food? I spent about 3,000 dollars on it and even had it personally delivered to you. Am I not doing my part as a good wife?” Sienna retorted righteously.
Clayton emphasized coldly, “I wanted you to cook it.”
“Oh, that service…” Sienna dragged out the words, her tone suddenly turning icy. “I’ve scrapped it. Who was it that used to complain that the food was too sweet, too salty, too sour, disgusting, ugly, and meant for dogs?
“You’re so picky. That’s the food you get for today. Take it or leave it. Didn’t you say even a housekeeper could do what I do? In that case, I won’t compete with the professionals.”
Clayton didn’t have any good comebacks. Just as he opened his mouth and said, “Sienna, you—”
She hung up on him.
Across from her, Michelle poked at her salad with a fork, her eyes widened. “Did you really order takeout for him?”
Sienna snorted and replied, “Yeah. I’m already being merciful by not ordering one of those bargain combo meals, but he still has the nerve to lecture me. Men these days are way too spoiled.”
Michelle laughed so hard she nearly tipped over. “You should’ve had the delivery guy take a photo of him signing for it. I bet

his face was so long it could break the world record.”

Sienna shrugged. “He’s a petty guy. He might sue the delivery guy for violating his privacy and turn it around to threaten me into doing this or that.”
Just as they were talking, a middle-aged woman who had permed hair and was wearing a floral blouse approached them with a warm smile. She handed them two flyers.
“Ladies, you both look so young and pretty. I don’t think you have boyfriends yet, right? I work for a high-end matchmaking site. We offer quality men. They’re all over five feet ten inches tall and have respectable jobs, with annual salaries starting at a million. Are you interested?”
Michelle was about to wave her off, but Sienna beat her to it and took the flyers with a bright smile. “Thank you, ma’am. We really need this. We’ll take a good look.”
“That’s great!” The middle-aged woman nodded in satisfaction and cheerfully moved on to the next table.
Michelle eyed Sienna suspiciously. “Most of those sites are scams. Even if Clayton is awful, there’s no need to panic and seek random dates, right?”
