Divorced While Pregnant The Ex-Husband’s Collapse 88
Chapter 88
“Don’t play games with me, Natalie Bennett,” Jeffrey warned.
Natalie shrugged. “I’ve already given you my word. What are you still worried about? You’re not afraid of me, are you?”
“You need to apologize first thing tomorrow morning.”
“I heard you loud and clear!” Natalie snapped. “Can I go now?”
After a long and exhausting day, she was completely worn out. She wanted nothing more than to get some rest. In fact, she felt like she could pass out as soon as her head hit the pillow. She wasn’t in the mood to argue with Jeffrey at all.
Just as she had expected, it was better if she stayed busy. If she had too much free time, she’d start thinking about romance and other sentimental nonsense. She should stay busy. That
way,
all she would think about was work and her career.
As for that apology… Jeffrey would simply have to wait and see. After all, in order to put on an outstanding performance tomorrow, she needed to be well–rested.
Jeffrey’s expression was dark and unreadable. Natalie wasn’t the type to give in so easily. He didn’t think she would be so compliant, but she had agreed to his request without putting up a fight. He couldn’t find a single fault in her behavior at all.
While he was lost in his thoughts, she had already walked out of the study.
Once she returned to the main bedroom, she removed her makeup and took a shower. Subsequently, she climbed into bed and tucked herself underneath the covers. Before she slept, she even slipped on an eye mask. She didn’t pay Jeffrey any attention at all.
Jeffrey was beside her, reading a book on finance and investments, but he barely got through a couple of pages. He felt incredibly irritated. Meanwhile, Natalie was sound asleep.
He cleared his throat.
Natalie, who was lying by the edge of the bed, was perfectly still.
In an attempt to get her attention, he coughed again. But to his dismay, he still didn’t receive a single response.
Just as he was about to cough for the third time, she finally decided to say something.
“If your throat is feeling irritated, go drink some water. If that doesn’t help, go suck on a couple of lozenges,” she spat evenly.

Once she was done speaking, she rolled over and turned her back toward him.
Jeffrey slammed his book shut. “In order to save me from the blazing fire, Ab ended up inhaling an excessive amount of smoke. So-”
“Yeah, I know,” Natalie cut him off. “She saved your life, so you want to devote yourself to her. Today, I let my jealousy get the best of me and acted like an evil woman.
She continued, “Because of me, Abigail is now mute. My actions crossed a line in your books. As a result, I have to admit to my wrongdoings and apologize to her. Otherwise, you won’t be able to offer her an explanation.”
She took his words right out of his mouth. She had hit the nail on the head. If she had hurt Abigail in any other way, he would’ve let the matter slide. However, Abigail’s voice was his bottom line, and Natalie had crossed a boundary.
He couldn’t tolerate her behavior, but he couldn’t understand why he was explaining everything to her. Was that really necessary?
Jeffrey shut his eyes and rubbed his forehead. He couldn’t believe himself! He had the urge to tell her that he could forgive her.
“There are some things you simply can’t do, Natalie. Do you understand?”
There was no response.
“Natalie?” He opened his eyes and glanced at her.
At some point, Natalie’s eye mask had slipped off. She was already fast asleep, and her jet- black hair was spread across the pillow underneath her.
His expression darkened. He couldn’t believe that she was sound asleep!
