Jeffrey called Natalie cruel. He also called her vicious. He did so without discerning the truth, immediately asserting that she had tried to harm Abigail.
Natalie looked into Jeffrey’s eyes. “What good would Abigail losing her voice do to me? If I wanted to poison her, wouldn’t I have just used it to kill her?”
“If Ab dies, I’ll have you pay with your life!” Jeffrey snarled.
Natalie scoffed, asking, “Then if she becomes mute, would you also want me to become mute?
Jeffrey’s gaze blazed with fury. “You’d better pray there’s nothing wrong with Ab’s voice, Natalie.”
After all, Abigail had already damaged her voice back when she had rushed into the inferno to save Jeffrey. She had choked on huge amounts of dense smoke and inhaled too much, causing her throat, windpipes, and lungs to develop infections.
At the time, she had carried Jeffrey on her petite back as she escaped with difficulty. Using her wet clothes to cover Jeffrey’s mouth, she left herself exposed to the fire and smoke.
She had given all hope of survival to Jeffrey without any regard for her own safety.
By the time they ran out of the sea of fire, Abigail’s whole body was covered in soot. She immediately passed out after handing Jeffrey over to the firefighters. When she woke up once
she couldn’t speak, and her voice was hoarse.
more,
She managed to regain her voice after a long and meticulous treatment, but it would never
return to its former melodiousness.
This was something Jeffrey had always regretted. He was most concerned about Abigail’s voice.
And now, Natalie actually wanted to damage Abigail’s vocal cords. This undoubtedly struck a raw nerve with him!
Natalie smiled. “I pray that she’ll achieve her dreams of marrying into the Foster family soon. I also wish for a long, harmonious union between the two of you.”
If Abigail felt more at ease and grounded after hearing these words, she would stop prancing around before Natalie. It was a no–brainer that this was something Abigail had staged herself. There was absolutely nothing wrong with Natalie’s tea.
No wonder Abigail had that contemplative look on her face when she picked up the cup.
Natalie had felt puzzled earlier. She guessed Abigail had already planned this by then. How

Stacy could no longer endure this. She immediately started going off at Jeffrey. “Are you nuts, Jeffrey? When Abigail damaged her voice in that fire, did you also damage your brain?
“Who would poison someone so brazenly? That’s like writing, ‘I’m the culprit,‘ on your forehead! If Nat wanted to poison her, wouldn’t she be more subtle about it? Wouldn’t she play dirty? Do you think she would pour tea for Abigail herself just as she’s visiting the gallery?

Stacy scoffed. “I’d say that Abigail’s trying to frame Nat!”
Abigail was so anxious that tears welled up in her eyes. She made a flurry of movements with her hands, but she still couldn’t voice a single word.
All she could do was shake her head and wave her hands repeatedly, opening and closing her mouth in an attempt to express what she wanted to say through her lip movements. She was saying, “It’s not me. It’s not me.”
Jeffrey understood what she was trying to say. He hugged her. “Ab, I’ll bring you to the hospital. Your voice will recover. Don’t worry, I’m here. Don’t be afraid.”
Tears streamed down Abigail’s cheeks, her eyes red–rimmed as she leaned against his chest.
Jeffrey picked her up and carried her out hurriedly. He didn’t turn back, but his cold voice traveled over. “If Ab’s voice doesn’t recover, just you wait.”
It was both a warning and a threat.
Stacy was about to say something when Natalie grabbed her hand and shook her head slightly.
Stacy stomped her foot. “It’s pissing me off! It’s such an obvious and crude scheme. Why can’t Jeffrey see that?”
“He’ll only believe Abigail. He’ll never believe what I say.”
“What do we do now?”
“It’s alright,” Natalie said. “Don’t worry, Abigail will definitely be fine. She’s a smart one. There’s no way she’d willingly sacrifice her own voice for real.”
