Divorced, Upgraded, and Married Rich Chapter 65

Divorced While Pregnant The Ex-Husband’s Collapse 65

Chapter 65

1/2

Natalie couldn’t believe the nonsense Jeffrey could spout without batting an eye. Sure enough, everything that came out of a man’s mouth was a lie.

She instinctively pulled back a little, trying to create some distance from Jeffrey and avoid

being pressed too close. As a result, her upper body leaned against him while her lower body was further away.

Seeing this, Jeffrey calmly shifted closer to her side.

Just great!

Natalie gritted her teeth, forcing her lips to stay still as she said, “No need to get carried away

with the act.”

Jeffrey replied, “Shut up.”

She retorted, “My mouth is shut.”

Jeffrey’s temple twitched. He found himself increasingly at a loss with her.

In their five years of marriage, and even in the ten–plus years they’d known each other, she’d never acted like this. Now that they were getting divorced, she seemed like a completely different person.

Natalie didn’t want any physical contact with him because Abigail had been in his arms too. Abigail had once leaned into that very embrace. Natalie thought it was filthy.

She tried to move to the couch to get away from Jeffrey.

But Jeffrey anticipated her move and hooked his fingers around her shoulder. Holding her firmly, he said loudly, “Grandma, why did you and Beverly come to my place today?”

Caroline replied, “Nothing, I just came to see the two of you. By the way, we got a skilled and experienced housekeeper to take care of Nat.”

Jeffrey’s expression shifted slightly. This was clearly an attempt to plant a spy inside Foster Garden. From now on, Caroline would know everything happening inside the estate.

Caroline called toward the kitchen, “Martha, stop what you’re doing and come over.”

“Coming, Mrs. Foster Sr.,” came the reply.

Out of the kitchen door came a plump, middle–aged woman in her 40s. She walked briskly and looked like a hardworking, capable person.

She smiled. “Mr. Foster, Mrs. Foster, just call me Martha. I used to work in the Foster

residence, and Mrs. Foster Sr. asked me to transfer here starting today. I was making some

stew in the kitchen. I’ll slow–cook it overnight to bring out all the nutrients. Mrs. Foster will be able to enjoy a flavorful stew tomorrow.”

Caroline nodded with satisfaction, clearly pleased with Martha Roberts.

She said, “Nat, Martha has raised three children and has plenty of experience. She even has a nutrition degree. With her around, I’ll feel more reassured.”

Natalie waved her hands to refuse. “That’s not necessary, Caroline. There are plenty of staff members at Foster Garden. We’ve got enough. There’s no need to bring people over from the

Foster residence.”

What a joke.

Martha moving in meant Natalie would have to move in too. She could barely handle

pretending to be lovey–dovey with Jeffrey for a little while. She might go insane if she had to do it every day.

Besides, no matter how convincing the act, it was still an act. Sooner or later, the facade would crack. Something fake could never become real.

Their divorce hadn’t been finalized. If the elders intervened now, she could forget about actually divorcing.

Natalie was more afraid of failing to finalize the divorce than Jeffrey was.

Beverly spoke up. “We’re doing this because we care about you. You just have to accept it. I have faith in Martha. Within a month, she’ll make sure you’re well–fed and taken care of.”

Caroline was clearly satisfied with her arrangements. “Exactly. Alright, it’s settled, then. It’s getting late, so we should head off.”

Natalie felt as if she had been struck by lightning.

This meant, tonight… She would be sleeping at Foster Garden and sharing a bed with Jeffrey.
