Divorced, Upgraded, and Married Rich Chapter 56

Divorced While Pregnant The Ex-Husband’s Collapse 56

Chapter 56

On the road, Chandler drove at a leisurely pace. Abigail sat in the passenger seat with visible panic and unease.

“Am I really that frightening? Why do you always look like that whenever you see me?”

Chandler asked casually, freeing one hand and resting it on the back of Abigail’s hand. Then, he stroked it gently. “Relax. I’m not going to do anything to you.”

She immediately flung his hand away. “Don’t touch me!”

He asked, “You won’t even let me touch you now?”

Abigail said, “I’m Jeff’s woman, Chandler. You should show some restraint! If you dare lay a hand on me, I’ll…‘

“You’ll go tell Jeffrey?” Chandler finished for her.

Abigail bit down hard on her lower lip.

“Go ahead,” he said. Not only did he not seem afraid at all, but he actually laughed. “While you’re at it, I can also tell Jeffrey a few things from back then. For example…”

He deliberately dragged out his words. “The truth about that fire. The equipment room at school was perfectly fine, so why did it suddenly catch fire? What a mystery.”

All the color drained from Abigail’s face. She sat upright, completely frightened.

A few seconds later, she slowly leaned back into the seat. All the arrogance she’d shown earlier was completely gone.

She asked, “Alright, Chandler. What do you want?”

Chandler let out a disdainful laugh. “So, can I touch you now?”

Abigail didn’t answer.

He grabbed her hand, rubbing it over and over again. “Such delicate skin. Jeffrey really treats you well. I wonder what his woman tastes like.”

Abigail forced herself to suppress the revulsion. “I advise you not to act recklessly. If Jeff ever finds out, we’re both finished.”

“Don’t worry,” Chandler said. He lifted her hand and kissed it lightly. “I know my limits.”

Abigail nearly yanked her hand back. She bit down hard on the tip of her tongue and turned away, refusing to look at him.

She asked, “Do you want any woman who belongs to Jeffrey? You were quite attentive to

Natalie just now too, defending her and speaking up for her like that.”

Chandler replied, “I’m only feigning concern for her. What I feel for you is genuine.”

Abigail asked, “What do you

mean?”

He laughed out loud. “You’ll understand in time. There’s no rush. We can just take things slow. There are plenty of things I’ll need your help with in the future.”

A sense of despair welled up in her when she heard that. She wouldn’t be able to shake Chandler off anytime soon. He was like a venomous snake, coiled tightly around her. If she wanted to get rid of him, she’d either have to kill him or perish together with him.

Chandler continued, “Abigail, from now on, don’t hide when you see me. Don’t even think about avoiding me. If you make me unhappy, you’re finished. You’ll lose everything you have now, understand?”

She hesitated for a moment before replying, “I understand.”

He smiled. “That’s more like it. Be a good girl and listen.”

After taking a deep breath, she said, “You have to help me keep the secret.”

Chandler nodded. “Of course. How could I bear to see Jeffrey abandon you?”

Then, he laughed out loud again.

Abigail clenched her teeth in secret. If she wanted her secret to never see the light of day, the best way would be to silence him forever. Only the dead could never speak. Only then would

she be truly safe.

But for now, she couldn’t do it.

Stephen had just returned to the Bennett residence. Right as he was about to step into the living room, Natalie called out, “Wait!”

Stephen’s foot froze in mid–air, and his body swayed slightly from side to side. “What now? You’re not letting me into my own house?”

Natalie said, “Let me cleanse the bad luck off your body first.”
