Divorced While Pregnant The Ex-Husband’s Collapse 55
Chapter 55
Forget it. There was no point in some cheap verbal thrills. Offending Jeffrey would bring
Natalie no benefit at all.
Natalie picked up the remaining half glass of sugar water and drank it in one go. Then, she stood up from the couch. “It’s settled. You release Stephen first. Let him go home.”
Jeffrey replied, “Fine, but what if you fail to persuade my grandma?”
She smiled. “At the end of the day, you just want to marry Abigail, right? Once the divorce papers are finalized, I’ll make sure she successfully enters the Foster family.”
After a moment’s thought, she added, “Though, you shouldn’t make things too lavish, given it’ll be your second marriage and all.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, she felt like she had overstepped. She pursed her lips slightly and shrugged. Then, she turned and headed for the door.
Jeffrey said, “Stop.”
She sighed, paused, and looked back at him. “What now?”
“You think you can just leave like that?” Jeffrey asked.
She replied, “What else? Do you want me to stay for dinner before I go?”
Jeffrey’s expression darkened.
Natalie asked, “Wait, do you want me to cook you a
meal before I leave?”
He still didn’t speak, merely looking at her with an unfathomable gaze. He couldn’t stand how composed Natalie was. She had been the one who loved him so desperately, throwing herself into the flames like a moth.
And now,
she was the one who divorced him so cleanly, walking away as if she had never loved him at all. It felt like he was nothing but a stranger.
Natalie met his gaze. After knowing him for so many years, she could slowly begin to read some of his thoughts from just a look.
She asked tentatively, “Jeffrey, are you struggling to accept that I don’t love you anymore?”
He pressed his lips into a thin line.
She immediately knew that she was right.
Natalie said firmly, “That’s right. I don’t love you anymore. My life used to revolve around you, and I treated you as the center of my universe. But that version of me no longer exists.

When I loved you, I gave you everything without holding back. Jeffrey, for 17 years, I’ve never once wronged you.”
Jeffrey was too arrogant. He had grown accustomed to enjoying Natalie’s devotion in their marriage. And at the same time, he had gotten used to belittling her domestic labor.
He wanted Natalie’s life to revolve around him but without it ever getting in his way.
Now that she had truly withdrawn from his world, he couldn’t accept it. More accurately, he
felt like he had lost control of her.
“I know how to love, but I know how to let go as well. Jeffrey, you’ll have to get used to it. No one would be willing to humble themselves in love forever, endlessly giving and trying to please,” Natalie said calmly.
She took two steps backward, then turned away once more.
Her heart had already been battered by Jeffrey until it was full of holes. She was long past the point of feeling pain.
The one who should be hurting, regretting, and suffering should be him. Not her.
When did her heart finally crumble to dust?
On Natalie’s birthday, he had flown overseas to be with Abigail, just because Abigail had claimed to see someone outside her window at night. He could go up to an entire week without speaking to Natalie, yet he could still find time between meetings to call Abigail.
Jeffrey remembered every single one of Abigail’s preferences, yet even after five years, he still couldn’t remember that Natalie was allergic to mangoes.
And there was more. So much more.
Disappointment had accumulated bit by bit. Until one day, her love for him collapsed completely, going beyond the point of repair.
Jeffrey remained standing by the window.
Natalie left without even a single glance back.
The butler suddenly said, “Mr. Foster, Mrs. Foster is-”
“Mrs. Foster?” Jeffrey interrupted. Anger started to fill his calm expression. “Natalie is no longer the lady of this house!”
