A Mix-up Made Me His Enemy’s Woman 121
Chapter 121
“I’ll never admit Bethany is my sister!” Leo screamed, his face flushed red with rage. “Dad, you’ve got to say something!”
If it weren’t for Silas, Gary wouldn’t have felt so torn. But as things stood, there was no room left for Bethany in the Reid family. Even if they let this slide, the damage was done. It would still drive a thorn deep into his, Ella’s, and Leo’s hearts. And that thorn could never be
removed.
He looked at Diana. “What do you think?”
Diana was so conflicted that she could barely hold herself together. She covered her face with her hands as tears spilled through her fingers.
“Gary, I know she isn’t close to me, but for my sake, can we not call the cops?” she cried. “I’ll make it up to Ella later, okay?”
This was the first time Diana had ever spoken up for Bethany.
Gary took a drag of his cigarette. Smoke swirled around him, blurring his features.
“If we don’t call the cops, what about the future? What if she does something extreme like this
again?”
Diana cried for a while before she finally managed to find her voice. “I’ll release a statement in
the media cutting all ties to her. She’s no longer my daughter. If there’s a next time, you can do whatever you want with her.
“Dad!” Leo was furious with the way things were going. “What about this time? Are we just going to let it go?”
Bethany had Silas backing her, so it would be difficult for Gary to pursue this matter even if he
wanted to.
Their connection to the Brennan family was thoroughly severed now.
He stubbed out his cigarette, his voice dropping low. “Fine. We’ll do as you said.”
Evan hadn’t seen Bethany all day and was starting to get nervous. He used his smartwatch to call Silas, but there was no answer. He refused to give up and called his father.
Julian answered on the second ring.

“What’s wrong, Evan?” He assumed Evan had gotten into trouble again.
“Dad, do you know where Aunt Betty is? She didn’t come back all night, and I’m worried something happened to her. Uncle Silas is on a business trip now…”
Julian frowned. “She didn’t come back all night?”
Evan replied, “Yeah. The maid said she got a call and just ran out!”
Julian pressed his lips together. “Okay, I got it. Don’t worry, I’ll send someone to look into it. I’ll have the driver pick you up today, so be good.”
“Oh, okay then.” Evan knew he shouldn’t keep staying at Bethany’s house. “But Dad, you have to tell me when you find her.”
Bethany returned to the hospital after leaving the Reid residence. Even though the doctors told her she couldn’t see Sarah, she stayed anyway.
The ICU only allowed visitors until 3:00 pm, and even then, Bethany could only see Sarah for a short while through a video feed. Most patients in the ICU were in a coma and couldn’t respond to their families. Despite that, Bethany stubbornly insisted on waiting.
She buried her face in her knees until she noticed a pair of shiny leather shoes appear in front of her. She looked up abruptly, her gaze dim.
“Julian?”

She was surprised to see him there.
Julian handed her a bottle of water.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to pry. Evan said he couldn’t find you, and he was really worried.”
He paused, then added, “I just went to ask the doctor about your grandmother’s condition. The most important thing now is for her to get through these next three days without any complications.”
He looked at her. “Did you tell Silas about your grandmother suddenly falling ill?”
Bethany stiffened. “Not yet.”
Too many things had happened, and she hadn’t had time to tell anyone. She just wanted to shut the world out and tend to her wounds.
Julian curled his lips slightly. “This is my assistant, Anthony Delone. I’ll lend him to you for a
