Gary and Diana rushed over in alarm. Diana’s face was drained of color. “Bethany, lost your mind? She’s your sister!”

Bethany gripped the whip and pointed it straight at Diana. “You’re only spared because you’re my biological mother. Otherwise, I’d beat you too.”
Ella clutched her head and fled, hiding behind Gary. “Dad, she’s gone insane! Call the police, call the police!”
The violent rage surging inside Bethany was beyond control. She knew that she had crossed
the line.
Noah, who had come to the Reid residence that morning, frowned when he saw the door wide
open.
“What happened today?” he asked a housekeeper.
“Mr. Vazquez, Ms. Porter stormed upstairs with a whip and is beating Ms. Reid.”
He froze. “Bethany?”
“Yes! She was terrifying! Mr. Reid told me to call the police.”
“Don’t,” Noah said firmly. “I’ll go take a look. I’m here now.”
He rushed upstairs and saw Bethany standing there, clearly on the verge of collapse, yet refusing to relent.
“Noah!” Ella rushed into his arms. “Look at her! She’s lost her mind! She whipped me. It hurts
so much.”
Bethany’s gaze turned icy. Her bitten lip was pale, stark against the blood–red rims of her eyes. Her jaw was clenched so tightly that her cheeks shook from the rage.
That fierce, blazing red at the corner of her eyes stunned Noah. The woman he had once thought meek and dull was suddenly, shockingly beautiful in her fury.
He gently comforted Ella, then stepped away from her and walked toward Bethany. “Bethany, isn’t this enough?”
Her bloodshot eyes were fixed on him as she said, “No. Not even close.”
Bethany brushed past him, her gaze sweeping across everyone present. “I’m here to make this clear. If anything happens to my grandmother, Ella will pay for it with her life.”

Ella went rigid, terror flooding her chest.
Bethany’s ruthlessness that day convinced Ella that she meant every single word.
Yet, Noah didn’t rush to defend her. Instead, he watched Bethany with a deep, inscrutable look.
Bethany turned and left without hesitation. The whip coiled in her hand bit into her palm, leaving it flushed red.
“She’s insane!” Diana cried, utterly shaken.
Gary pulled Ella close, asking, “Ella, are you hurt?”
Ella bared her arms and legs, sobbing. “Dad, it hurts so much. I want to call the police. She broke in and assaulted me. I want her in prison!”
Diana trembled. Even so, she couldn’t bear the thought of Bethany going to jail.
Noah took a steadying breath. “Ella, we should get you to a hospital first. Mr. Reid, I’ll take her. Mrs. Reid, I’ll leave things here to you.”
Gary understood the unspoken message and had no desire to involve the police.
After a long sigh, he said, “Noah, I’ll entrust my daughter to you.”
Noah lifted Ella into his arms. “Be good. I’ll take you to the hospital.”
Her grievance eased slightly, and she nodded meekly.
Back at the Reid residence, Diana and Gary sat apart on the couch. 1
Upon hearing that Ella had been injured, Leo exploded in rage. “Mom, how long are you going to keep defending Bethany? Today she dared to whip Ella–tomorrow she’ll be stabbing her!”
