Chapter 75

“I can’t move my hand,” said Tristan.

Just one line, and he successfully left Genevieve at a loss for words.

She was so infuriated that her chest hurt, but she couldn’t lash out. All she could do was shoot a glare at him and walk back into the kitchen.

Watching her exasperated back as she stormed off, Tristan couldn’t help but curl his lips into a smile.

Gradually, the aroma of a tonic filled the apartment.

Genevieve brought a freshly–made tonic out and walked to the couch. The dark brown liquid appeared even thicker in the white ceramic cup.

“The tonic is ready,” she said while putting the cup on the coffee table.

Tristan looked up, his eyes shifting from the TV to her before finally landing on the cup of tonic.

He didn’t budge at all.

Genevieve frowned and asked, “Are you not going to drink it?”

“My hand hurts. I can’t hold the cup properly,” Tristan replied lazily.

Genevieve felt her breath catch immediately.

She stared at his gorgeous face. It seemed to scream that he was clearly the boss there. She gritted her teeth so hard that they were grinding.

She had met shameless people, but never anyone as bad as Tristan.

Still…

She told herself it was fine and suppressed her emotions.

“Alright, I’ll feed you,” said Genevieve.

She picked up the cup and held a spoonful of tonic to his lips with a blank expression.

A flicker of mirth crossed Tristan’s eyes, flashing by so quickly that it was barely noticeable.

He lowered his head a little and drank the tonic. The hot tonic rolled down his throat, tasting extremely bitter. Yet for some inexplicable reason, he felt a hint of sweetness deep down.

He looked at Genevieve’s face, which was within an arm’s reach now. Her gaze was lowered, making her long, thick lashes cast a faint shadow beneath her eyes, hiding all her emotions.

She always looked aloof, but now her face was slightly flushed from anger. She looked just like a rose blooming in the harsh snow–cold but attractive.

“It’s too hot,” he said.

Genevieve paused and lifted her gaze, looking at him icily.

“Mr. Hale, it’s a bitter tonic, but it’s only effective if you drink it while it’s hot,” she said.

“I said it’s hot,” he repeated.

Genevieve was speechless.

There was nothing she could do about it. He was the patient, so he had the final say.

Resigned to her fate, she held the spoon to her lips and blew on the tonic. Her warm breath fanned across the brown tonic, making small ripples across its surface.

Her full, rosy lips were beautiful, and they were slightly puckered as she blew on the tonic. Tristan couldn’t help but gulp, his gaze darkening instantly.

The air seemed to grow thick and heavy.

Genevieve was oblivious to all of it. She checked the tonic’s temperature and held the spoon to Tristan’s lips again.

One spoonful after another, she finally finished feeding Tristan, though it was no easy feat.

Genevieve let out a sigh of relief once Tristan finished the tonic. Then she went back into the kitchen to clean up.

She spent a long time in the kitchen before she finally managed to calm down. Only then did she walk out.

Leaning against the wall, she crossed her arms over her chest and looked at the gloomy sky outside the window. She couldn’t help it as her thoughts drifted off, making her think about the Yates family.

Zachary had been arrested, while Soren was at large. They also only just touched the tip of the iceberg with exposing Sloane Pharmaceuticals‘ shady dealings.

She recalled how Heron had held her hand and pleaded with her before she left the mausoleum.

“Forget it, my child. Just stop right here. The Yates family can’t weather another storm. Just pretend that the Seeker’s Twinstone never existed,” he urged.
