Chapter 21
The longer this dragged on, the worse it would get. If Zachary used some underhanded method to get Genevieve pregnant,
her life would be over.
Her thoughts were in a complete mess when Raymond spoke again.
“Tristan.” Raymond’s tone softened a little. “You’re not getting any younger. Do you have someone you like? If you don’t, I’ll arrange some blind dates for you. My friends’ granddaughters are all-”
Genevieve’s heart skipped a beat, then started pounding hard.
Tristan’s deep gaze slid past her profile. “I do.”
Raymond’s eyes lit up. “Oh? Who is she? When will you bring her back for me to meet?”
The air seemed to freeze.
A faint smile played at the corner of his lips. “After she gets divorced.”
Zachary froze in disbelief, while Sylvia gasped in shock.
And Genevieve felt the last of her strength give way.
She didn’t want to overthink it. She told herself that it was just Tristan brushing Raymond off.
Yet, as soon as Tristan finished speaking, those deep, dark eyes shifted to her, as if hinting at something.
“Nonsense!” Raymond snapped. His lips turned purple with rage, his grip on the bed rail trembling as his chest heaved.
He pressed a hand to his heart, and his face went ashen in an instant.
“Grandpa!” Genevieve’s pupils tightened. She snapped out of it and moved forward.
“Don’t make things worse!” Zachary yanked her wrist back, his gaze hard. “Call a doctor! Now!”
Sylvia panicked and reached for her phone, but Raymond forced out a few words with what little strength he had left. “All… All of you… Get out. Gen, stay.”
Tristan had already turned away. He headed for the door without uttering a single word.
Zachary stayed rooted to the spot, staring at Raymond like he couldn’t believe what he’d just heard. “Grandpa! What’s the point of leaving Genevieve here? She’s not a doctor!”
He was such an idiot.
Genevieve’s chest tightened with anger. She threw Zachary’s hand off and looked at him with icy contempt. “If you still care about your grandfather, get out now!”
The chill in her eyes made Zachary hesitate for a second.
Raymond’s face was already paper-white. Sylvia didn’t dare waste another second. She grabbed Zachary and practically dragged him out of the bedroom.
Without hesitation, she crossed to the bedside table, pulled open the bottom drawer with practiced ease, and took out a small velvet pouch.
When she unfolded it, a row of needles of varying lengths gleamed with a chilling sheen.
She picked a needle and went straight to work, her movements fast and precise as she struck several points near Raymond’s chest.
The entire process was quick and fluid. It was over in just a few minutes.

Raymond’s ragged breathing slowly steadied, and color crept back into his face.
He weakly opened his eyes and looked at Genevieve as she calmly withdrew the needles. “Gen, you’ve saved me again.”
Genevieve’s tone remained flat as she said, “Your body can’t take anger like that anymore.”
If she had grandsons like Zachary and Tristan, she wouldn’t have been able to keep her temper either. But she kept that thought to herself.
Raymond fell silent for a moment.
“Gen, there are things I shouldn’t meddle in. But there are lines you can’t cross.”
Genevieve felt her chest tighten.
Raymond went on, “Feelings take time to build. Zachary may be a letdown now, but he’ll see your value eventually. You should give him a little more time.”
With that, Genevieve realized that Raymond had noticed Tristan’s subtle glances and caught the deeper meaning in his earlier words.
Raymond seemed to be making excuses for Zachary, but it was really a warning to her.
She couldn’t cross any lines with another man in the Lambert family.
