Chapter 20
Genevieve’s stomach dropped.
Raymond choosing to leave the hospital at a moment like this, then urgently summoning them, could only mean something serious. Worse, Tristan had been called back to the Lambert residence, too.
The thought of running into him in a place like that made Genevieve’s scalp prickle, and her first instinct was to refuse.
But Sylvia and Zachary had already boxed her in, leaving her with nowhere to go. It was clear that she didn’t have a choice.
Zachary gave Regina a reassuring look, then grabbed Genevieve by the wrist. “Let’s go!”
Sylvia followed behind them, her face livid, saying nothing.
Soon, they arrived at the Lambert residence.
They crossed the courtyard without exchanging a single word and went straight to Raymond’s bedroom upstairs.
The moment the door opened, Genevieve’s breath caught.
By the window, a tall figure sat in a chair with his back to them, gazing out at the bleak winter scene.
Morning light filtered through the window, tracing a faint golden outline along his tailored black suit. He looked composed and distant, yet impossible to ignore.
It was Tristan. He was here.
Genevieve lowered her eyes. Last night’s madness crashed through her thoughts, leaving her frozen in place.
The gaze that landed on her felt almost tangible, burning with heat.
Zachary wasn’t stupid. He sensed the shift in the air the moment he walked in.
Tristan’s gaze stayed fixed on Genevieve, so intent that it made Zachary’s temples throb.
A surge of possessiveness washed over him. Zachary stepped forward and pulled Genevieve into his arms, then looked at Tristan coldly. “Tristan, you saw us come in and didn’t even bother to greet us? What kind of manners is that?” Genevieve’s skin crawled at being held like that, but with Raymond in the room, she didn’t shove Zachary off.
The man seated by the window finally turned to face them, his expression unreadable.
Tristan was two years younger than Zachary-the same age as Genevieve.
“Genevieve, it’s been a while,” he said.
He only greeted her.
Zachary’s brows knitted hard. Something about the atmosphere between them felt wrong.
Before Zachary could explode, Raymond cleared his throat and spoke from the bed. “I called you here for one thing.”
He paused and looked at Zachary and Tristan in turn.
“I’m old, and I don’t have much time left. I still hold 30% of the shares in Lambert Group. When I’m gone, that stake won’t go to Zachary-nor will it go to Tristan.”
Zachary’s expression changed. He opened his mouth to argue, but Raymond lifted a hand, cutting him off.
“It will go to my great-grandchild. Whoever gives me my first great-grandchild will get it.”
Zachary snapped, “Grandpa! What kind of nonsense is this? Before Dad died, he made it clear-once I got married, the entire Lambert Group would be mine!”

“Your dad is my son!” Raymond roared, slamming his palm against the bed rail. “His will decides his portion, while the shares in my hands are mine to give. I’m telling you now, they’ll go to my great-grandchild!”
The news struck Genevieve like a thunderbolt. Were they forcing her to have a child?
It shattered every plan she had.
If Zachary wanted that 30% stake, there was no way he would agree to divorce her. No. She needed to call Jonathan back right away.
