Liam had been standing quietly to the side the entire time. Yet, as soon as Zachary and Regina finished speaking, he furrowed
his brow.
He knew that he shouldn’t interfere in Genevieve’s personal affairs, but Zachary had actually told her to “get lost”.
What a joke!
Genevieve was someone his boss, Tristan, had personally requested to meet. For her sake, the company had renovated a top- tier perfume lab overnight, and everyone was on edge, waiting for her arrival.
If her incompetent husband really kicked her out, Liam figured that he might as well pack up and return home to the farm.
With that in mind, he stepped forward and positioned himself in front of Genevieve.
“Mr. Lambert, Ms. Whitfield is the guest of honor today. Many people are waiting for her, so I’m afraid she can’t leave just yet,” Liam said politely.
Only then did Zachary look at the man who had intervened. He wore a perfectly tailored suit and carried himself with calm authority. Clearly, he was no ordinary man.
However, the way he looked at Genevieve was unmistakably protective.
Zachary didn’t know Liam, but his instincts as a man immediately painted the worst possible scenario in his mind.
Out of nowhere, he laughed in exasperation. His eyes darted between Genevieve and Liam before saying, “Genevieve, you really are something, huh? It’s no wonder you had the nerve to hang up on me. Turns out, you found some random guy to back you up.”
Zachary sized Liam up and sneered. “You look the part all right. But who do you think you are to meddle in my family’s business?”
The guests erupted into chatter, gossip crashing over them like a tidal wave.
“Oh my gosh! Is this a cheating scandal?” one exclaimed.
“The wife and the mistress are here, and now, a possible lover shows up? The Lamberts’ affairs are a total mess!”
Genevieve’s expression hardened instantly. These were her problems to handle herself. No matter how ugly it got, she was determined to see them through.
But she hadn’t meant to drag an innocent bystander into this, and she wouldn’t let Zachary hurl such vile words at him.
After all, Liam carried the weight of URI Corporation’s reputation. If his boss found out about this, she’d be in serious
trouble.
Genevieve had no intention of turning a business partner into an enemy.
A second later, a resounding slap rang out.
For a moment, time seemed to stand still. The crowd froze, stunned by the blow.
Zachary’s left cheek burned with pain, and his eyes widened in disbelief. This was the woman who had always been submissive. How could she slap him in front of everyone?
Genevieve flicked her wrist and slowly asked, “Zachary, have I been far too lenient with you?”
“Genevieve! How could you hit him?”
Regina was the first to react. She rushed to check Zachary’s face, her eyes filled with worry.

Then, she turned to Genevieve. “He was just worried about you! He was afraid someone would take advantage of you. How could you resort to violence? That’s too much!”
But Genevieve didn’t bother saying another word. She raised a hand and slapped Regina with perfect precision.
Regina clutched her cheek, utterly stunned.
Genevieve withdrew her hand and looked at Regina with contempt. “You don’t belong here. Do you really think you have the right to speak?”
Regina pressed a hand against her burning cheek, tears welling in her eyes. Her face twisted with grievance, while Zachary seethed with rage. He had never been humiliated like this before.
Around them, the crowd watched the drama unfold. Their expressions varied, but every eye gleamed with amusement.
Liam stood quietly behind Genevieve. As he stared at her back, the admiration in his eyes deepened.
It was no wonder Tristan had personally selected her. She had the ability, and more importantly, the guts. A man like Zachary wasn’t worthy of her.
“Genevieve Whitfield!” Zachary bellowed.
Rage consumed him, and he lost all reason. Just as he swung his hand to strike back, a powerful grip clamped down on his wrist mid-air.
Two burly bodyguards in black appeared at his side without warning, separating Zachary and Regina from Genevieve.
