Chapter 7
Chapter 7
The person on the other end of the line hummed in response, his low voice betraying nothing.
“Ms. Whitfield has agreed to the partnership. She said she’ll come by in person later this evening,” Liam reported in a respectful tone.
There was a brief silence over the phone.
When Tristan spoke again, he asked a different question. “How did she react to the gift I sent?”
Liam paused, the image of Genevieve’s impassive face flashing through his mind. A beat later, he answered honestly, ” Nothing noteworthy. She was very composed.”
If anything, she was far too calm.
Silence fell again. Then, the line went dead.

In the top-floor office of URI Corporation, Tristan casually tossed his phone onto the desk. His slender fingers drifted on their own to his thin lips. Even now, the soft sensation still seemed to linger.
He hadn’t expected his first proper encounter with Genevieve after returning to the country to begin with such an abrupt kiss.
What Tristan had never imagined was that, in his desperation, Raymond would have found a wife for that idiot Zachary. And of all people, the woman turned out to be Cen, the elusive perfumer who had risen to international fame.
By the look of things, Zachary still had no idea what kind of extraordinary woman his wife truly was. That gave Tristan the perfect opportunity.
His gaze darkened slightly, and a smirk tugged at his lips. “Sister-in-law, huh?”
When Genevieve stepped out of the car, there were ten minutes left before the gala began.
She wore a red halter-neck mermaid gown that traced her figure flawlessly. Her hair was tied up, revealing her fair neck, and her bold red lipstick gave her an unmistakable presence.
Liam had been waiting for a while. The moment he saw her, he hurried over.
“Ms. Whitfield, this way, please.”
His words had barely settled when a familiar voice cut through the crowd. “Genevieve?”
Not far away stood Zachary. He was impeccably dressed in a tailored suit, and disbelief was written all over his face.
After Genevieve had hung up on him, he was unable to track her down. He never imagined that he’d run into her here, of all
places.
Standing close beside him was Regina. She had deliberately chosen a pale pink lace dress, hoping for a softer look. But next to Genevieve, she appeared plain and unremarkable.
All around, guests turned to look, whispers rippling through the room.
Zachary’s expression darkened. He stepped forward and lowered his voice. “Why didn’t you answer my calls? What kind of stunt is this? Are you checking up on me, or following me?”
Regina moved closer as well, a flicker of fake concern in her eyes as she said, “Genevieve, trust is the most important thing in a marriage. Showing up like this is bound to make people misunderstand.”
Genevieve watched them calmly. She raised a brow, showing no signs of anger.
Her gaze swept over the pair before her. Then, her lips curved into a faint smile as she turned to Regina.

Genevieve watched them calmly. She raised a brow, showing no signs of anger.
Her gaze swept over the pair before her. Then, her lips curved into a faint smile as she turned to Regina.
“If you’re going to be the mistress, at least learn how to be discreet. How could you flaunt yourself like this? Aren’t you at least a little embarrassed?”
In an instant, the murmurs around them grew louder.
“Isn’t that Zachary from Lambert Group? He got married less than a year ago, and now, he’s already cheating?” someone whispered.
Another muttered, “What a scumbag! He’s actually having an affair.”
“The mistress isn’t even as attractive as his wife. Does he have bad taste?”
Regina’s smile faltered at once. She instinctively clenched her bag but didn’t lash out.
She had weathered worse storms, after all. So, a few sharp words wouldn’t faze her. She wasn’t the type to be intimidated.
Besides, she didn’t need to say a single thing. Someone else would handle it.
At that moment, Zachary stepped in. His protective instinct flared as he snapped, “That’s enough! Stop making a scene. This isn’t the place for you. Get lost! Whatever it is, we’ll deal with it later. I can’t afford this kind of embarrassment!”
“Go home!” he repeated sharply. “Don’t cause any more trouble for the family.”
It was only then that Regina spoke, backing him up. “Genevieve, you’ve misunderstood. Zach only looks out for me the way he would a younger sister. I’m here today representing Lambert Group. It’s strictly business. You don’t need to be so sensitive.”
