Chapter 34
William pulled his leg back, his eyes flicking coldly with a warning edge. “If you don’t know how to talk properly, keep your mouth shut.”
Shaun swallowed his rage and pointed at Lucy from across the room. “You just wait, you-”
Lucy blew him a flirty wink and made a little heart with her fingers. “I’ll be waiting!”
Shaun was speechless.
By now, everyone in the living room had noticed Scarlet’s arrival.
Shaun, Silas, William’s childhood friends, and a few people Scarlet didn’t recognize were all there. They all looked genuinely surprised.
She hung up her coat, revealing a white knitted dress underneath. Though the dress looked simple, it revealed everything. One slip in posture or a small flaw in her figure would be obvious.
Because of her job, Scarlet rarely fussed over fashion, prioritizing comfort over style. She had never worn anything revealing or overtly sexy.
Except for William, no one knew that beneath her slight frame, she was perfectly proportioned, slender but with curves in all the right places. The knit dress hugged her figure, showing off a tiny, narrow waist that flowed into perfectly rounded hips, giving her an effortlessly stunning hourglass shape.
She always carried herself gracefully. Her shoulders were straight, her neck long, and her hair pinned up to show off its elegant curve.
Men couldn’t help but stare. There was no denying it. She had always been stunning.
A young heir who’d recently started getting involved with the Thompson family business leaned over, a hint of envy in his voice. “Man, William’s lucky. He’s got two of the most beautiful women in Lebavia.”
A friend scoffed. “You can envy all you want, but get your family to own a bank first.”
“It’s hard to say, though. Now that his ex is back, he’s probably going to toss Scarlet aside after he gets bored with her. But you’d better not touch anyone William’s with. Even if he did dump her, no one else could touch her.”
“What could touching her possibly do? Even touching her would be a thrill. Look at that tiny waist and those hips!”
The man’s eyes roamed greedily, adjusting his stance in agitation.
William walked toward Scarlet, scanning her dress, annoyed yet unable to find fault. It reached mid-calf, left nothing exposed, yet somehow made her irresistible.
“Why are you here? Have you finally decided to leave home?”
“Weren’t you the ones who invited me?” Scarlet shot a glance behind him. “Maybe you should all get your story straight first before inviting me over.”
Nicole stepped forward. “I invited Scarlet. You don’t have to be so fierce.”
She smiled at Scarlet. “Don’t mind him. You’re just in time. Everyone’s been waiting for you.”
Her polite words hinted that she was closer to William than Scarlet, making Scarlet feel like an outsider.
Nicole wore a red dress that was striking without being flashy. As the Jameson family’s favorite daughter, she had the poise and pedigree to pull it off, and the color suited her perfectly.
“Waiting for me?” Scarlet glanced around. No one had ever really noticed her before. “When have I ever had that kind of

honor?”
Nicole had only meant it as a courtesy, but Scarlet’s blunt honesty made her smile falter. “Scarlet, you’re different from before.”
Scarlet replied with a dry, “It took some shots to fix it.”
She used to exhaust herself for no reason, but now, she got more satisfaction watching others scramble.
Nicole had no response to that.
“I came in a rush, so I didn’t bring a gift,” Scarlet added. “But you probably don’t need me to, anyway.”

Nicole met her gaze for a moment, then smiled. “Just having you here is enough. Don’t worry about gifts. It’s rare to have everyone together today. Let’s just have fun!”
She linked arms with Scarlet, guiding her inside as though she were a guest of honor, introducing her politely to everyone.
Those meeting Scarlet for the first time shook hands courteously. After all, she was William’s wife, and it never hurt to be polite.
Scarlet returned politeness with politeness and treated everyone with the same courtesy, even as she noticed one younger man, either by accident or design, squeeze her fingers a little during their handshake.
When she met his gaze, he looked completely unbothered.
