Mrs. Lewis wanted to enter the room, but Mr. Lewis held her back and said, “Since Liberty is allowed in, let her handle it.” The two bodyguards exchanged bitter looks and remarked, “Sir, if we don’t go in soon, Fourth Young Master will hold us accountable later.” Mr. and Mrs. Lewis were the parents of the fourth young master. While he could not take action against his own parents, the bodyguards were just that—bodyguards.
“Go in and take care of it,” Mr. Lewis instructed. He hesitated to confront Liberty directly and was more concerned than anyone else about what might happen to her, despite Duncan’s eagerness to throw Liberty out.
Everyone felt uneasy as the two bodyguards entered the room. Liberty sat on the bed, pretending to be helpless while quietly observing the fourth young master patting the bed. “Get her out of here and don’t let her in again!” Duncan commanded. Upon seeing the bodyguards enter, he stopped patting the bed and pointed at Liberty, instructing them to throw her out.
Liberty turned to the bodyguards and said, “If you think you can knock me out and carry me away, go ahead. If not, you should leave.” The bodyguards exchanged glances, deciding against taking the initiative to subdue Liberty. After all, she was the beloved of the fourth young master; they wouldn’t dare knock her unconscious.
“Which one of you will do it?” Duncan asked. “He,” one bodyguard replied, pointing at the other. “No, he,” the other bodyguard countered, pointing back. Liberty chuckled and suggested, “Why don’t you both settle it with rock, paper, scissors?”
Duncan’s expression darkened. To his surprise, the two bodyguards did indeed play rock-paper-scissors to determine who would act, and the one who lost…
Duncan had no choice but to step forward, as if he were about to confront Liberty unconsciously. “You two just hold her up and drag her out,” he instructed before the bodyguard could act.
“Fourth Young Master, Ms. Liberty is Ms. Serenity’s elder sister, and we cannot afford to offend her. If Ms. Serenity claims we took advantage of Ms. Liberty, we won’t be able to absolve ourselves, even by jumping into the Yellow River,” the bodyguard replied, his expression filled with worry. “Fourth Young Master, you know how much Mr. Zachary cherishes his wife. If Ms. Serenity says we took advantage of Ms. Liberty, it will be the end for us. We’ve served the Lewis family for many years—please help us.”
Duncan was left speechless. To be honest, he didn’t want the bodyguards to touch Liberty at all.
“Liberty, what do you want? If you wanted to see me in a mess, you’ve already witnessed it, so you can leave,” Duncan pleaded. “Please, can you go? I don’t want to see you!”
Upon hearing the Fourth Young Master’s words, the two bodyguards realized their presence was no longer needed, and they quietly retreated from the ward.
Now, only Duncan and Liberty remained inside.
“If you want me to leave, you must drink the tonic soup in the insulated lunch box first. Once you finish, I’ll go,” Liberty stated firmly. Since she had decided to care for Duncan and ensure he took his leg treatment seriously, she was committed to her decision. No matter what Duncan said, she would ignore it.
As long as Duncan didn’t physically confront her, she wouldn’t be afraid. Getting scolded a few times by him wouldn’t hurt her.
Duncan glared at her, his face dark with frustration.
“I’m not afraid of your glare. The salary your mom pays me is substantial,” she retorted.
“Where can I find such a high-paying job? For the sake of money, you’ve led me into a wasp’s nest, but I’m not afraid.” Liberty opened the insulated lunch box and asked, “Are you going to drink it by yourself, or should I feed you?” “Help me up!” Duncan commanded her with a grim expression.
