Married at First Sight Chapter 1699 They gave the gift to the bodyguard and brought it into the ward after briefly comforting Mrs. Lewis. Before the others, Zachary had to leave the hospital.
Mrs. Lewis accompanied everyone to the elevator entrance. She watched them enter before returning to the ward.
At the door of the ward, Mrs. Lewis paused for a moment before going inside.
Duncan lay on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, lost in thought.
“Did Zachary and the others leave?” Mr. Lewis asked softly.
“Duncan doesn’t want to see them, so they had to go,” Mrs. Lewis sighed as she walked to the hospital bed and sat down. She looked at her son and after a while said gently, “Duncan, everyone came to see you because they care. It’s not pity, so please don’t get trapped in your own thoughts, okay?”
Duncan closed his eyes, clearly unwilling to hear what his mother had to say.
Mrs. Lewis felt a sudden pang in her heart.
Duncan had been on the right path, no longer yearning to venture into dangerous lifestyles. He had borrowed a large sum of money from Zachary to start his own business. Although it was challenging at first, he persevered.
Over the past ten years, Lewis & Co. had grown significantly.
His net worth had reached tens of billions, and he was a confident and successful man who carried himself with pride.
If it weren’t for his emotional struggles… he would still be the charismatic Fourth Young Master Lewis.
It was all her fault; his mother’s car accident had caused him to suffer and prevented him from pursuing Liberty.
Duncan closed his eyes to ignore his mother and her words, but unexpectedly drifted off to sleep.
Even though he lay in bed every day, he actually battled insomnia and…
He often found it difficult to fall asleep. Sometimes he would close his eyes, ponder various thoughts, and drift off groggily at dawn. The car accident had taken a heavy toll on him. He struggled to accept the reality of becoming crippled.
“Husband, look after Duncan; I’m going for a walk,” Mrs. Lewis said as she stood up.
“Go ahead; don’t worry too much. Duncan is just going through a brief period of depression; I believe he will bounce back,” Mr. Lewis replied, aware of how saddened his wife had been lately.
With Duncan now asleep, it was beneficial for Mrs. Lewis to take a walk and unwind. She gave her sleeping son a lingering look, then retrieved her bag from the bedside table drawer, put it on, and left the ward.
However, she wasn’t going out to relax; she intended to visit Liberty.
When Mrs. Lewis arrived at Liberty, the shop was quiet. After the night shift had finished breakfast, only a few customers were present. The shop would become busy again at noon when it reopened. Some people preferred noodles and dumplings over plain white rice for lunch.
Previously, All You Can Eat had only operated during breakfast hours, usually starting to clean and tidy up after 10 o’clock before closing for the day. Occasionally, Liberty would remain open all day, working when customers came in, making dumplings when it was slow, or simply dozing off in the shop.
