Mrs. Brown was furious; Jessica’s recent curse towards her two grandchildren was incredibly hurtful. However, upon seeing Jessica clutching her stomach and crying out in pain, she rushed over to support her and anxiously said, “Sit down quickly, or go back to your room and lie down.”
“Mom, she’s just faking it,” Chelsea remarked, skeptical of Jessica’s claims of stomach pain.
“Chelsea,” Mrs. Brown responded to her daughter, helping Jessica into the room and lying her down on the bed. Noticing her daughter-in-law’s face was swollen from her daughter’s attack, she worried about Hank seeing her like this when he returned. She then said to Jessica, “I’ll go get some ice to help with your face.”
Jessica touched her face but remained silent.
Mrs. Brown stepped out to fetch ice cubes.
Meanwhile, Jessica lay on the bed, overwhelmed by her current situation, and tears streamed down her face. Yet, she recognized this was the path she had chosen.
After all, who could blame her for intervening in Hank and Liberty’s marriage?
Now, she found herself unable to return to her mother’s house and felt wronged every day at her husband’s home. With a high-achieving older sister and biased in-laws, she felt on the verge of collapse.
If it weren’t for the child she was carrying, Jessica doubted she could endure this. That child was her temporary salvation from potential imprisonment, and she felt fiercely protective of the baby, worried Chelsea might cause harm.
Suddenly, Jessica sat up in bed; she needed to use the bathroom.
At that moment, Mrs. Brown entered with the ice cubes.
“Jessica, where are you going?” Mrs. Brown inquired.
“Going to the bathroom,” Jessica replied as she walked into the bathroom, taking her mobile phone with her.
Mrs. Brown settled onto the bed, waiting.
Jessica sent a message to Hank while he was in the bathroom, expressing her frustration. Hank had just received an order to take a passenger to the airport, and after confirming with his wife, he stopped responding to Jessica.
Not receiving a reply from her husband, Jessica scolded him, saying, “You’re useless! How could I have ever liked a man like you?”
She then switched to watching videos. The videos quickly became addictive, and she ended up squatting in the bathroom for half an hour.
After staying in that position for so long, her legs went numb. When she finally emerged, she accidentally kicked the bathroom threshold and stumbled forward.
Witnessing this, Mrs. Brown instinctively stood up and rushed to help Jessica, but unfortunately, she was two steps too late.
Jessica fell to the ground.
“Jessica!” Mrs. Brown exclaimed, alarmed, as she hurried over to assist her.
Once Jessica was back on her feet, Mrs. Brown anxiously asked, “Does your stomach hurt?”
Jessica shook her head, relieved that she wasn’t experiencing any stomach pain at that moment.
