Chapter 1622
Duncan was at a loss for words.
Sonny was such a stubborn child.
“Sonny,”
Liberty approached them after noticing Duncan and Sonny together.
Concerned, Duncan reminded Sonny once more not to disclose their earlier conversation. Sonny appeared to ignore his advice and wriggled free from Duncan’s hold, quickly running toward his mother.
“Mom.”
As Sonny reached Liberty, she took his hand and smiled, asking, “Don’t you want to play anymore?”
“No. I want to go home.”
“Alright. Let’s head home.”
Turning to Duncan, Liberty calmly expressed her gratitude. “Mr. Lewis, thank you for taking care of Sonny for me.”
“You’re welcome. I’m always happy to help look after him.”
Duncan reached out to pat the top of Sonny’s head. “Sonny is easy to manage.”
Liberty smiled and told Duncan, “Mr. Lewis, we’ll be leaving now since Sonny wants to go home.”
Duncan quickly offered, “Let me drive you home.”
“It’s alright.”
Liberty picked up her son and encouraged him to say goodbye to Duncan.
“Liberty,”
Duncan was curious about the conversation she and his mother had.
Liberty simply turned around, smiled at him, and continued walking away with Sonny.
Duncan followed them.
“Mom, I have a question for you.”
The moment Sonny spoke, Duncan found himself wishing he could disappear. Despite Duncan’s repeated explanations to Sonny, the child stubbornly insisted on sharing the information with his mother.
“Go ahead,” Liberty encouraged, unaware of what Duncan had shared with Sonny. Upon hearing that Sonny wanted to ask,
Her curiosity was piqued about something.
Sonny said, “Mom, Dunc told me he wants to join our family and asked for my permission. Since I’m just a kid, I can’t decide, so I’m asking for your opinion. If you agree, I’ll let Dunc know.”
With that, he shouted to Duncan, “Dunc, hurry up and come here. I’ve asked Mom for you!”
Duncan was left speechless, wishing the ground would swallow him whole.
He thought maybe lightning would strike him just to escape the embarrassment.
Liberty was uncertain how to respond; she was taken aback by her son’s innocent question.
What could Duncan have asked Sonny in her absence?
“Dunc, Dunc, hurry up and come over! I’ve asked Mom. Don’t be scared; you can ask her again.”
Sonny was incredibly enthusiastic about it.
“Sonny,” Liberty said, gently tapping his hand that was waving at Duncan.
It was only then that Sonny noticed his mother’s distressed expression. Did this mean she disagreed?
Duncan was genuinely kind.
“Mom, don’t you want Dunc to join our family? He’s really nice, and I like him. But he said he wants to be my father. I already have a father, so I don’t want to be greedy and have two.” Duncan wondered if it would be too late for him to bang his head against the wall.
