Married at First Sight Chapter 1618

Chapter 1618
Liberty might be able to escape, but she could not conceal herself.
This would not address the underlying issue.
“Mrs. Lewis, the most effective solution is for you to dissuade Mr. Lewis from this path.
I hope you can make a greater effort to persuade him.”
Mrs. Lewis was at a loss for words.
Hearing Liberty’s comments caused a slight flush to rise on Mrs. Lewis’s face.
While Mrs. Lewis wanted Liberty to keep her distance from Duncan, Liberty was expecting Mrs. Lewis to prevent Duncan from bothering her.
After a moment, Mrs. Lewis spoke to Liberty with a tone of desperation, “Liberty, if I had a solution, I wouldn’t have sought you out. My ungrateful son refuses to listen to me, which is why I had no choice but to ask for your assistance.”
“Liberty, it’s not that I look down on you. In a marriage, families must be well-matched in social status. I’m sure you understand this. Right now, you are living a peaceful life and have no intention of remarrying. Even if you were to consider it, a relationship with Duncan would not bring you happiness.”
“You both belong to different social ranks and circles. In the early stages of love, you might believe you can overcome any obstacles. However, once the honeymoon phase ends, conflicts will inevitably arise.”
“Moreover, I cannot accept you as my daughter-in-law. If you truly pursue a relationship with Duncan, I cannot guarantee what my reaction will be. I genuinely cannot promise that.”
After Mrs. Lewis finished speaking, Liberty replied, “I understand.”
“Can you empathize with my desire for what is best for my son? If you agree to leave Wiltspoon, I can compensate you as much as you wish. Just name your price, and I will meet your request.”
“You can still keep in touch with your sister and aunt, but please ask them not to disclose your location so that Duncan cannot find you.”
Mrs.

Lewis held Liberty’s hand and pleaded, “Liberty, I hope you can understand my situation. I’ll resolve all other issues if you promise to leave.”

Liberty gently withdrew her hand. “Mrs. Lewis, I’m sorry, but I can’t promise I’ll leave Wiltspoon. I’m not at fault, so why should I make that sacrifice? If anyone should move, it’s you and Mr. Lewis, so you can avoid me.”

Mrs. Lewis gasped.

“I am a Wiltspoonian,” she replied. “I grew up here and got married here. Most of my relatives and friends are in Wiltspoon, and I’m accustomed to the lifestyle. If I were to live elsewhere, I wouldn’t be able to adapt. Even if I could, I would constantly think of Wiltspoon.”

“Same here,” Liberty shot back, causing Mrs. Lewis to choke again.

Though the Hunts’ house was in the countryside, it still belonged to Wiltspoon. Liberty’s declaration of being a Wiltspoonian left Mrs. Lewis without a rebuttal.

“Liberty,” Mrs. Lewis said, her tone sharp. “Are you hesitant to leave Wiltspoon because you’re considering accepting Duncan in the future?”

At this moment, Liberty was not in love with Duncan, but Mrs. Lewis couldn’t shake the suspicion that she might develop feelings for him later.

“Mrs. Lewis, I acknowledge that Mr. Lewis is a fine man. I can’t predict the future—I might accept him eventually, or I might never. However, I can assure you that I will never marry into your family if you disapprove!”

With this statement, Liberty shifted the focus back onto Mrs. Lewis.

Mrs. Lewis was left speechless.

In any case, Liberty was unwilling to compromise with Mrs. Lewis.
