Chapter 1577
Zachary finally found his voice after a moment of surprise. With a smile, he said, “Mr. Johnson, I’m a bit confused here.”
“How did Andrew become your rival in love? He broke up with his girlfriend of five years three years ago and has been single ever since.”
Was Remy not in love with Elisa?
Although Andrew was acquainted with Elisa, he had never interacted with her. He held no romantic feelings for her, which meant he posed no threat to Remy.
“Mr. Reading met Elisa today, so it’s premature to suggest that he likes her. I tend to be overly concerned, but Mrs. Stone’s behavior today made me think. I apologize for asking about Mr. Reading.”
For once, Zachary was curious, primarily because his wife leaned in to listen to the conversation. He asked, “Can you clarify what’s happening, Remy?”
“What specifically do you want to know about Andrew?”
Remy explained the entire situation to Zachary, stating, “The reality is that Mr. Reading is your cousin, single, and without a girlfriend—enough said for me.”
Remy wouldn’t view Mr. Reading as a competitor if he were married or in a committed relationship. Elisa valued her pride and would never pursue Andrew if she knew he had a girlfriend. She had no desire to interfere in someone else’s relationship.
That principle was evident in her past interactions with Zachary.
Elisa moved on from her feelings once she learned that Zachary was married.
In her words, Elisa cherished her pride and dignity as the heiress of the Stone family. Why should she lower herself to steal someone else’s partner?
“Remy… You’re jumping to conclusions.”
Zachary smiled after hearing the full story, convinced that Remy was overreacting.
Just because Andrew had met Elisa and handed her a business card, Remy perceived him as the
“Enemy.”
“Was that an overreaction?”
Allowing Zachary to laugh at him, Remy replied, “I know I am. I finally met a girl who makes my heart race, and I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I can’t let someone else swoop in and take her away. I need to end the competition before it even begins.”
Zachary smiled and said, “I understand. Don’t worry. Andrew will never be your competition.”
He believed his cousin wasn’t interested in Elisa romantically.
“I’ll still keep an eye on Mr. Andrew, but I promise that if he does become a rival in the future, it will be a fair fight. I won’t resort to any dirty tricks.”
Zachary cheerfully replied, “Andrew is also an honest and straightforward guy.”
“Sorry to bother you, Mr. York.”
“No worries. I understand.”
Zachary ended the call with a chuckle.
Tilting his head, he caught his wife’s curious gaze and affectionately tapped her forehead. “Don’t look at me like that. I’ll always share any gossip with you.”
“Come on, tell me what happened.”
Serenity was bursting with curiosity, especially since she had only heard one side of the conversation.
“Your aunt twisted her ankle today and ran into my cousin. I think you remember him. Andrew showed up at River’s birthday party, but his family isn’t fond of gatherings. He came to drop off a gift for River and said a quick hello before leaving.”
