is supportive of her. In contrast, her two older aunts are aligned with her uncle and are eager to return to their hometown to compete for the property. They are envious of Camryn’s success and resentful of her relationship with Evelyn, her youngest aunt, who genuinely cares for her.
“Do they really intend to return home to contest the property? Who currently owns the Newman family estate? If it still belongs to Camryn’s grandparents, her aunts might stand a chance at claiming some shares,” I asked.
Callum responded, “Camryn mentioned that her father left the Newman family villa to her. While her father should have taken over the company, it ended up with Mr. Newman after her father was killed. Upon reflection, it seems that most of the Newman assets are now under Mr. Newman’s control.”
“Mr. and Mrs. Newman married when Camryn was just two years old. Despite their animosity towards her, she grew up alongside them, naturally forming a bond as a ward with her guardians. As Mr. Newman’s stepdaughter, Camryn has the right to inherit the property. Additionally, the Newman Enterprise, which Mr. Newman now runs, should have originally belonged to Camryn’s father.”
“Didn’t Mr. and Mrs. Newman have a son and daughter after their marriage? They haven’t been sentenced yet. If Mr. Newman receives a death sentence, his sisters might have a chance to fight for the property after his passing. But he’s not dead yet. Why are they returning to contest the property now?”
Callum explained, “That’s the reason for Camryn’s estrangement from her two aunts. Currently, Camryn and Dalton Mitchell are managing Newman Enterprise. Dalton, who has been deeply trusted by Mr. Newman, is the deputy managing director and has known Camryn for many years, offering her support.”
She treats her like a younger sister. I only recently learned about their connection.”
Rosella paused for a moment before saying, “I didn’t expect Camryn to have such a card up her sleeve. It’s no surprise your nana chose her, Callum. Since this involves your wife’s family, you should lend more support. Don’t let your future wife suffer.”
“Of course, Mom. Don’t worry—I won’t let your future daughter-in-law struggle.”
It was just like a mother and son to think alike.
Although Camryn hadn’t yet accepted Callum’s feelings, Rosella already regarded her as her future daughter-in-law and felt protective of her. She feared that Camryn might face difficulties in the inheritance dispute.
“Ask Zack for help if you need it, or let me know if you want me to intervene. I won’t allow my future daughter-in-law to be bullied,” she declared.
Once again, the York family’s protectiveness was on full display.
When Tania defended Serenity, the latter had already become her daughter-in-law. It was natural for a mother-in-law to protect her daughter-in-law.
However, since Camryn had not yet married into the York family, Rosella already treated her like a daughter-in-law and kept an eye on her.
Callum smiled. “I’m reassured by your words, Mom.”
Deep down, he felt a little concerned that his parents might struggle to accept a blind woman as their daughter-in-law. His mother’s words provided him with comfort.
