Chapter 1437
Hank was unable to enter the room despite his arrival.
Laughter echoed from within as Duncan spent time there.
This stark contrast left Hank feeling disappointed.
“Hank,” Mrs. Brown said, her tone filled with discontent.
“Mr. Lewis is in Liberty’s room, Hank!” Chelsea shot her brother a glare and reminded him.
“That’s their business. It doesn’t concern us. Let’s go,” he replied.
After saying this, Hank walked away from his parents and sister.
He didn’t even hand the flowers he bought to the bodyguard for delivery. Instead, he tossed the bouquet into a nearby trash can.
“Hank, Hank.”
Mrs. Brown hurried after him.
As she passed by the discarded flowers, she noticed their value—hundreds of dollars wasted by her extravagant son.
Mr. Brown sighed and followed suit, leaving as well.
Chelsea remained at the ward’s door, addressing the York family’s bodyguards, “I won’t interrupt Liberty since she has guests. I’ll visit her after they leave. I’ll wait here.”
With that, she found a nearby seat and sat down.
The bodyguards allowed her to remain as long as she didn’t enter the room, too apathetic to engage with her.
After all, she used to bully their missus’s sister ruthlessly—why was she now pretending to be kind?
Half an hour later, Duncan and Lily emerged from the room.
Chelsea, who had been waiting, stood up but sat back down upon seeing Duncan with Lily. She lowered her head and pretended to focus on her phone, deliberately ignoring him.
Lily remained oblivious to Chelsea’s behavior and asked Duncan, “Why didn’t you stay longer, Duncan?”
Duncan turned to look at her.
Lily smiled at Duncan and said, “You don’t have to look at me that way. I’m being honest and I mean no sarcasm.”
“Ms. Harmon, let’s find a place to have coffee and talk,” Duncan suggested.
Lily readily agreed.
Ten minutes later, they arrived at a café.
Duncan ordered an Americano, while Lily opted for a latte.
“Ms. Harmon, I’m a straightforward person and I don’t like to beat around the bush. I apologize in advance if what I’m about to say hurts your pride,” he began.
Lily looked at him calmly and replied with a smile, “You can say whatever you want, Duncan. I’m not a delicate flower that can’t withstand the wind and rain.”
“You’re a lovely lady, Ms. Harmon. My mom really likes you and is trying hard to bring us together. However, I don’t have any romantic feelings for you. I believe my mom has shared my thoughts with you as well. I hope you won’t invest any more effort in me, as nothing will come of it.”
Duncan had already told his mother not to pursue Lily any further; he would never date her.
